Ian Callaghan and Gerry Byrne are to be given World Cup winners medals after FIFA have decided to go back to 1930 and give winning squad members the medals not just the team. Callaghan played one game in 1966, Byrne played none.

"Midfielder Callaghan is Liverpool's record appearance holder with 859 games to his name. He made four international appearances."
He was a winger!!!
Great to hear this as football is a squad game.

Didn't Cally play as a midfielder toward the end of his long career? I was back in the U.S. by then so never saw him in that role but that's my understanding.

He was only a winger till 1971 when he lost his place to Brian Hall after a cartilage injury. After that he was a central midfielder till Liverpool signed Souness in 1978.

As time moved on, midfielders were forward or defensive. He was forward (the old winger). in short a winger!!!!

He started off as a winger, but played about the last 7 or 8 seasons as a midfield player.
Class in both positions btw.
Nice to hear that Cally and the Crunch are getting recognised.:handclap:
