Apologies if a similar thread exists elsewhere - not been on here long and still finding my way around.

Sailed with Harrison Line from 1973 until 1983. Ships sailed on:
Novelist, Linguist, Benefactor (favourite), Merchant, Strategist, Wanderer, Astronomer, Author, Adviser. Plus many more on coastal duties.

Anyone else on here done similar?

Kevin, did you go to the Falklands in the Falklands war?

No. I was on the Astronomer on our way back from the West Indies when she was requested for the Falklands. Those of us due leave left in, I think, Felixstowe then she went to the continent to be totally discharged before heading for Devonport to be converted for helicopter support. She then set off for the Falklands as the RFA Reliant.
Can't remember most who went except Gordon (Chippie) Ellis (2nd engineer)and Roy Dobson (chief officer). Got a booklet somewhere with all the details of those who sailed on her initially.

Pictures here of her both as the Astronomer and Reliant - at the bottom of the page:

Harrison Line ,

Brings back my short time "working by" in the staff canteen. I can not remember what dock it was in.
Never did get a ship with them. I went to Watts Watts on the MV Windsor.

Harrison Line nick name was " Two of Fat and One of Lean" if I remember (Two White bands on the funnel and a Red band between them).

Memories: - Phredd

Canada Dock.

The nickname had pretty much died out by the 70's and I think I first heard it from my prospective father-in-law in the mid-70's. There's possibly quite a few ex-Harrison men who've never heard it.

It was a food many tried to stay clear of.

The food was OK when I started and by the time I left they operated an a la carte system and the food was excellent.

I knew that. ..and I have never sailed.

I've posted this before but the event is imminent and we may have picked up new members in the meantime who might be interested.

There is a Harrison Line reunion tomorrow:

Crown Hotel, Lime St. Friday 28th November from 2.30.

As far as I am aware, it mostly involves engineers and electricians, though I'm sure all would be welcome.

Update.
Just spoken (on the phone) to someone who is going that I haven't seen for 30 years. He told me these reunions started with masters and chief officers and gradually expanded to include pursers, chief stewards and engineers.
So, clearly, anyone with a connection to Harrison's would be welcome.
