Default Gun violence

Another fatal shooting, this time outside a parade of shops in Speke near the Millhouse pubs on Alderwood Avenue.

http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0...name_page.html

This is possibly the shooting John Zappa was informed about off his mate. I must stop going up around pubs and taking photies, it's getting quite dangerous.

COLIN Smith once stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Curtis Warren in Liverpool’s drugs world.

And when the city’s most notorious gangster fell from his perch, Smith was there to capitalise.

According to underworld sources, married dad Colin Smith stepped right into Warren’s shoes.

His empire, built on cocaine, is said to have washed billions of pounds through the city, courting business from international drug cartels.

But in a world where back-stabbing and double-crosses are taken as the norm, Smith was a step apart.

He was known as a straight flyer, a businessman in a world dominated by thugs.

His terms and conditions were set before any deal could be struck and his payments were upfront and always on time.

This bought him the loyalty and respect most drug dealers can only crave. But it also brought him enemies.

Anyone outside his closely selected distribution network saw the shipments and the cash and wanted in but only on Smith’s say-so could they take a piece of the pie.

One source told the ECHO: “This is massive in terms of the city's gangs. For someone to go in to Speke and kill Colin Smith would be almost unthinkable.

“His family is very well known and well liked.”

The names of possible killers are already being banded around underworld figures in the city.

An underworld source told the ECHO: “Colin Smith was supposed to be Curtis Warren’s business partner but once ‘Cocky’ was locked up Smith took over from him.

“From that he bought a lot of fear, power, loyalty and intelligence.

“Smith was in a unique position in that he was well loved in a loveless business because he made a lot of people very rich.

“But he was known as a straight flyer. He was someone you could deal with and he would always be bang on with payments, shipments, terms and conditions and all that. That set him apart from the rest.

“In that world he was a man of his word and that is why he became so rich. He was one of those drug dealers in Liverpool who used the environment to his benefit.

“Like Cocky, he took the unemployment situation and the community looking for someone to empower them and used it to full effect.”

Police and the underworld are on guard for reprisals.

Graham Johnson, an authority on Liverpool’s gangland and author of The Devil, the story of notorious underworld figure Stephen French, said: “People are already talking about reprisals but I wouldn’t expect them to start for a few days at least.

“The police have saturated the area and there is too much heat on the street for anyone to be moving guns and drugs around right now.

“But there will definitely be people looking to even the score on this one. You don’t make a lot of people very rich without making some ‘friends’.

“When the king falls, everyone wants to be in the court of the new king but there will still be loyalties to the old king.

“This is business and if someone disrupts business, they will have to be dealt with.

“In these cases, it is almost always someone closer to home though, and there are a lot of people who already think they know who’s done this.”

In June 1993 Smith was cleared of being involving in Britain’s biggest cocaine smuggling gang.

Customs officials claimed £190m worth of the drug was brought into the country from Venezuela by a nine-strong gang.

It is believed the drugs, which were intercepted coming through Felixstowe, were destined for Liverpool.

But after listening to almost two months of evidence at a court in Newcastle, Judge Mr Justice May discharged Smith, together with Curtis Warren and Anthony Cahill, from Manchester, after ruling there was insufficient evidence to prove they had any involvement in the case.

Smith, who at the time of his release was a 26-year-old security guard living in Allerton, had denied drug importation charges.

Yes, sad. It appears from the Echo that the student got into an argument after leaving Nation club with somebody he knew and others were witness to it so this one should be cleared up a little more easily. How you just don't know what's 5 minutes around the corner.

It was Ged.I can honestly say this wont stop here.
The city will be just like it was when David Ungi got killed. With the real Gangters they wont have any idiot kids involved with guns so maybe that's a bit of a blessing.

Last night another young man was shot - although thankfully not dead.
The rumour going around the area is that he is a young lad called Mick Ungi who is a local boxer, who's trainer is the brother of the recently murdered Colin Smith.

Is this the start of another gun war?
