Just caught the tail-end of feature on B.B.C. news the other night,in which they were discussing/illustrating Peel's plan for an "Ocean Gateway". This involves a total revamp of the Manchester ship canal, and apparently,a link up of 30 or so schemes (of some type) already in progress, along the route! Does anyone have any more info'?

Like you I saw the report on N W Tonight for the 50 year project.
I had a look on Peel Holdings web site, and its a convulated site, you have to look under each of their headings to see the input into the Ocean Gateway Project

There was a 10 min's slot,on "Inside Out" tonight! There's 50 billion planned to be spent on the scheme,on 50 odd different sites, though it's forecast to take up to 50 years to complete....so I won't see it!:unibrow: There was a little info' on "Peel" itself, and the impression given, was of a reasonably benevolent company, who prefer projects in the north,as opposed to elsewhere!

They have a barge container shunting operation already on the canal which you pass on the ferry tour.

Liverpool Waters and Wirral waters are flagship schemes for the Ocean Gateway. Peel have been looking at this since they bought it in 2005. They issued an Ordnance Survey style map of the sites they have between here and Manchester. They have been struggling a bit (because of the recession no doubt) but the Irlam Recycling Centre got stuck in planning, which in the bigger scheme of things is a shame.

When they bought the MDHC they didn't just get docks and a canal...
