It has now been one week since I had a ciggy. Sorry for blowing my own trumpet, but I am so proud of myself.
I am using patches, but I can honestly say I havent craved for one, have thought about them, but havent touched one.
Steven has been my influence and my rock for helping me do this. Thank you Steven.:hug:
Hopefully I can continue until I can say I am a non smoker.

I used to enjoy my smokes. Lovely to sit down after are hard days work and have a ciggie and a cuppa'. :) - or like now when we are decorating, and you are concentrating on doing a good job - it's nice to have a ciggie. Funny how you enjoy them when you are doing any difficult task. :)
I wasn't a heavy smoker - less than 10 a day. I'd probably smoke about 6 or 7- and I think because I wasn't a chain smoker, and more aware of how many I actually did smoke, I really did enjoy them. I think heavy smokers perhaps don't enjoy them as much as it's more of a habit and a ritual to light up.
I only smoked a few and I genuinely liked my cigs.
My husband was quite a heavy smoker and he gave up before me. I soon followed on. We have given up for the simple reason that it is just far too expensive to smoke now - also, as I have said in the other thread, because of the new smoking restrictions.
We went cold turkey without any patches or anything. :)

A enjoyed smoking too, and wasnt a heavy smoker, 10 a day if even that. I agree the smoking ban has been a big help in giving up. Its easier to go out for a drink or meal and no one around you smoking.
Thank you everyone for your support.

It is hard but I think it is the best way. My wife used lozenges, it was a slow process but it worked. I can't see the logic in replacing one type of nicotine with another. I quit over 4 years ago after open heart surgery, officially it was cold turkey but I was on morphine for the first 12 days, I'm sure that helped. At first it didn't bother me that other people smoked but it does now so I avoid it. I have got to a stage where I wonder why I ever did it, it takes a long time to get there but it is a good feeling. I was a heavy smoker, 60 a day and I started when I was about 12 so 50 years of bad habit must have cost me a fortune.
Good on you Molly, keep it up.:handclap:

Molly, like Shytalk,I too was a heavy smoker, when I was at sea,the duty frees wer so cheap and the fags so nice,Camels ,Lucky Strikes,Pall Mall and allof those other expensive brands. We bought them for 7/6d a 200 hundred pack.I smoked a pipe as well. When I came ashore it was areal shock to buy them at the real price, but you justify it to yourself, the price didn't matter, you needed the nicotine.I got a job a Rothmans and added cigars to my menu.So ,there I was, aged 44,smoking cigarettes,a pipe and cigars...........................I stunk!!
How my wife tolerated me I will never know,it was a total stranger who informed me of how I smelled.I bathed every day ,used aftershave, had my suits cleaned regularly, but this lady met me late in the day and told me of how offensive I smelled. And it was true.
I went cold turkey, that was in May 1986,and I have never had a fag since.I've wanted one,but I'm not about to be seduced by that old liar nicotine again.Keep it up Molly, you willsoon be mistress of your own life, not a slave to nicotine.
Best of Luck

Well said Brian. I was over in Ireland with Molly and Gerry when she decided to quit. Just after her birthday on Halloween.
Maybe I was something of an inspiration, 'cos I quit six months ago.
Molly is doing this for herself and nobody else. She knows that we are all backing her.
