View Full Version : Mourinho for Reds?
This story is from the Star which isnt the most reliable source, and even then its saying Mourinho wants to come here not necessarily the other way round. But given when Mourinho agreed Chelsea he said there was a club he'd like to join and one which he agreed to join he does have healthy respect for us. Gillett and Hicks will also be pissed off that after Rafa's constant whinging that he doesnt have the money to compete they have backed him and at present we still look no nearer the title and have gone backwards in Europe. If they decided Rafa has to go they will be looking to a manager who has a proven track record of success in the English game and there arent many around. Beyond Mourinho there isnt really anyone unless they bring Dalglish back. Whether they'd risk alienating fans I dont know but memories will be short if he delivers the 19th title.

I've chatted with mates about this, interesting :unibrow:
jon_hall 11-04-2007, 10:20 AM We still have a manager and until we don't i for one will not be even thinking about his future replacement.
Will be more pissed off if we're still playing the same once Alonso, Agger and Torres are back in the team and fully fit.
Do you really think Mourinho after the chelsea millions wouldn't complain about lack of money?

Not sure if he'd moan about the money as he overachieved at Porto given his resources. I agree though the time to judge Rafa is when Agger Alonso and Torres are all fit and playing. I actually think going out of the Champions League would be a blessing as it'd allow him to concentrate on the league without being so obsessed with rotation.
jon_hall 11-04-2007, 10:41 AM He'd still rotate.
We either need back up buys in January for left back and centre half or gives the likes of Hobbs / Insua etc a chance.
Riise should be rotated all the way out, he's hopeless at left back and can't even pass with his good foot.

Hi SteH
I think Liverpool are in deep trouble and Rafa is out of ideas. Many of the decisions he makes are the wrong ones. Liverpool only came to life yesterday when Crouch and Kewell came on.
He has sidelined Crouch too long. In Athens, why did he leave Crouch on the bench -- our leading scorer in the Champions League last season? We should have won that Final. The man doesn't seem to learn from his own mistakes.
It looks to me Liverpool FC are now in a similar position to what we were when Houllier reached the end of his term. It's time for a change. Personally I would welcome José Mourinho if he can deliver the goods, and I believe he can.

I agree with you Chris. I know I have criticised Mourinho on these pages but one thing he does have is his ability to make good players better players, and also his will to win. And yes, we should have won the Champions League Final.
I do think he would moan about not having the money that Chelsea gave him, he's seen that side of the coin now and probably wouldn't want to go back to managing like he had to at Porto.
From an Evertonians perspective, I know many were quite happy when you had Souness, Houllier and now Rafa, as all seem to make tactical/personnel mistakes in league games - not saying our fellas the best in the world either, you'll understand - but I do know we'd fear you having Mourinho as I don't think he'd stand any nonesense from under performers with the big proviso of 'as long as he has the money' and so, no ready made excuses for failure.

Moyes is an average manager, nothing else. After 5 or 6 years not much at all has been done, apart from prevent relegation. Mourinho could improve matters at Everton though. His budget would be tight, although it would improve once they go to Kirkby and revenues increase, but this guy would do well with any budget. He had direct interference at Chelsea - he needs a free hand.
bigpab 11-05-2007, 11:31 AM I think Mourinho would be good for Liverpool. Lets face squad rotation may work if it's done properly? The question is does Rafa do it properly? And have we the players available to do it? Didn't he (Rafa) harp on about zone defence? And I think he's now realised that, doesn't work either! So yeah maybe it is good to experiment with your team....But It's not good to experiment with your team during Champions league or Premiership matches.
scouse mouse 11-05-2007, 03:17 PM I can understand Maureen wanting the job but there isn't a snowballs chance that Liverpool would want him, he's a classless plonker in my book, as graceless in victory as he is in defeat.
Anyone could have won at Chelsea with the resources that he had, they are doing better right now with a manager that nobody had heard of a month ago.
Show Rafa our support, if for no other reason that he has earned it.
Take the amount of key players that have been missing long term for us out of any side in the prem and they would struggle a lot worse that 7th place, a game in hand on most of the others and still undefeated.
In Rafa we trust.

Are you serioulsy suggesting that Mourinho would consider managing Everton? Moyes has finished 4th,7th and 6th in his 5 full seasons at Everton, a bit more than just avoiding relegation - not to mention that first League Cup quarter final for 20 years which Radio City keeps reminding us about.

League cup 1/4 final? How embarrassing!
I would also add that in Arteta, Lescott and Cahill, he has added players that would probably get into any top 4 side and brought through Vaughan and Anichebe - one of them being the prems youngest ever scorer. An eye for a misfit elsewhere such as Howard, Pinaar and Gravesen with a couple of those being on loan means he's doing alright given his budget. The League cup has always been spurned by us in the past, playing lots of reserve players due to our small squad - that's why we've under performed in it, we haven't got youngsters with the skill of the Arsenal boys but hopefully we'll get the balance right this time out in league expectations (in my mind 5th - 7th) and perhaps hopefully a cup - any cup.
