Havin' a bad night. A couple of hours ago my computer was hijacked by a nasty piece of malware called Spyaxe. Ad-aware, Spybot, AVG etc. can't remove it. Despite a system restore and a lot of manual file deletion it still lurkin' here and there. Anybody had any experience of this or know how to get rid of it. All I can find on forums is people making similar appeals. Google has located various software that will detect it (not needed - its evident all over my system) and remove it for a price but there doesn't appear to be any freeware removal utilities or comprehensive instructions on how to get rid of it manually. HELP!

I don't know about benign. It was a bloody nuisance. Have wasted about three hours of my time gettin' rid of it - but it's finally gone. :) Thanks again FKoE, for pointing us in the right direction.

It was from a US web graphics site (don't have the URL). I clicked on a thumb of a web background to view and it instantly installed itself all over my system. Ad-aware, AVG, Spybot, etc. have always protected my PC to date but this evaded everything and was a pain to remove. The information on the thread that FKoE pointed us to (http://www.sysinternals.com/Forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2200&PN=1) was extremely helpful in getting rid of it.
