None of them!

Bar Humbug!

I hate going shopping when every shop is playing the same Christmas tunes, over and over and over again. I tend not to hang around the shops for long, I am straight in and straight out.... maybe that's what they are designed for.
This has never been a good time of year for me.

Me too !! I get out of the shops as soon as I can - that constant Christmas music is so irritating. Feel sorry for the staff having to listen to it all day and every day - the poor things must be brain washed with it!

Bah Humbug !

WHEN are they ever going to change those mind numbing tunes ... Slade, George Michael, Wizzard .. they've been playing the same annoying tunes for DECADES !
Surely we won't still be hearing Noddy Holder and Roy Wood in another 10 tears from now !!

Sick of all of them - but if I had to choose I'd pick Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. At least that's bearable.

Funny you never hear Elvis's 'Santa bring my baby back' or 'Blue Christmas'. Ah, those were the days, at least we could all rattle our chains in time to the music... :)

Is 'Wonderful Life' on this year? I feel like a good cry.

Hey, I've just heard 'Blue Christmas' in the Co-op, mind you with the prices they charge, is it any wonder...? :)

Fairytale Of New York - The Pogues :

It was christmas eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, wont see another one
And then he sang a song
The rare old mountain dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
Ive got a feeling
This years for me and you
So happy christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

Theyve got cars big as bars
Theyve got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
Its no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold christmas eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of new york city
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the nypd choir
Were singing galway bay
And the bells were ringing out
For christmas day

Youre a bum
Youre a punk
Youre an old **** on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy ******
Happy christmas your arse
I pray God its our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Cant make it all alone
Ive built my dreams around you

Hi all

Yes "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" by John Lennon, a wonderful anthem for the season and a song that always makes me feel sad this time of year, remembering John was shot 27 years ago yesterday. :(

I'll mention another fave of mine, "The Little Drummer Boy" which I remember was a hit for the Harry Simeone Chorale when I lived in Connecticut in 1958. It was composed by Katherine K. Davis, Henry Onorati, and Harry Simeone.

Chris

*************

Little Drummer Boy

Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.

Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

My favourite has to be the Pogues and the late Kirsty McCaul singing Fairytale in New York.

But I see the PC brigade have bleeped a few words out of it this year on Radio One.

Thanks. Glad you liked it.The choir of St Barnabas Church Penny Lane has a major claim to fame. Sir Paul McCartney of Beatles fame honed his singing skills in the St Barnabas Choir of the 1950s.

Barney's Hall was the church hall on Penny Lane, now called Dovedale Towers The choir of course sang in the church. I do believe the Beatles sang at Barnie's Hall as well. See
