View Full Version : Fireworks.
scouserdave 11-03-2006, 10:12 AM When I was a kid living in Hughes St, we used to have a massive bonfire in the middle
of the road, almost in front of the Hughes St entrance of Mill Road Hospital!
Things got a bit competetive when I lived in Canny Farm, though. We
started collecting stuff for our bonfire about two weeks before the 5th, but we all had to had to guard it, because we all went around trying to burn down
the others' bonfire before the day! Steers Croft were our main competitors, but us Barons Hey/Corner Brook lads always had the best bonfire:PDT_Piratz_26:
If anyone is taking pictures to share tonite, check this out:
Taking great fireworks photographs
* Low ISO
is the way to go. The biggest enemy of fireworks photographs is something called noise. It looks like tiny white or multi-coloured dots when you print
the picture. The longer the exposure, the more noise. If your camera lets you, pick the lowest ISO possible.
* Choose the right aperture.
Aperture — also called F-stop — makes or breaks a photograph. It decides how much light is let into the camera. Like Goldilocks in search of the perfect bed,
there is one aperture that’s just right. If it’s too big (such as F-2.8) all the light streaks turn white. If it’s too small (F-11 or F-22) the fireworks are
hard to see. Use the camera’s LCD screen as a guide. You might need a different F-stop at the beginning, middle or at the end of the fireworks show.
* Use long exposure noise reduction. If your digital camera has a noise reduction feature, use it! But be careful. It doubles your camera’s exposure
time. In other words, if you shoot a 10 second picture, you can’t take photograph for at least 10 more seconds.
I don't think anyone could beat the competitiveness of the tenement square bonfires. Because of sheer numbers and I mean about 100 or so lads raiding the local bombdies, of which they were plenty in our area of Islington, Fraser St, Camden st, Norton st etc, there'd always be a guaranteed massive display. Other squares would try to come and rob our wood and they were magical times as it would get under way and you'd move from square to square having a look at your rivals bonfire and usually ridiculing it, even if secretly it was better. There is a whole section to this annual ritual in the film Gardens of Stone and it sure takes you back. Good thread Dave and it deserves better imput.
Is Canny Farm, the one they call Cannibal Farm?:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

Or was it so bad they had to rename it? :)
PhilipG 10-10-2007, 02:13 PM We should have a thread for fireworks, now that Bonfire Night, Christmas and New Year will soon be here.
These are from the weekend at Southport, where a fantastic musical display was put on by competing fireworks manufacturers.
There's a bigger set on my flickr page.
