Bronze commemorative medal marking the visit of Edwin Thompson, Lord Mayor of Liverpool, to New York City, May 4-12, 1931. Diameter: 46 x 38mm (approx. 2" high by 1 1/4" wide) Weight: 20 g.

Reverse inscriptions read: TO COMMEMORATE / THE VISIT OF THE RT HON / THE LORD MAYOR / OF / LIVERPOOL / EDWIN THOMPSON / TO / HIS HONOUR THE MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY / THE HONOURABLE / JAMES J. WALKER MAY 4th-12th 1931

The Mayor of New York, Jimmy Walker (1881-1946), mayor during the Jazz Age, presided over a corrupt administration. He was quite a character and was nicknamed "Beau James." You can read about him here:

An article in Time magazine on the administration of Herbert Hoover said that Lord Mayor Edwin Thompson spoke out of turn while he was at a dinner in New York City, revealing something of what President Hoover had said about the economic situation.
