ChrisGeorge 09-22-2007, 11:27 PM Hi all He probably thought that after the Derby result, Birmingham would be another easy side to beat, so he played a weakened forward line. As the commentators in the match said, if he had really wanted to win the match, he probably should have played Torres from the beginning. With Torres and Crouch on, the side started to play with more urgency and invention. Prior to their introduction it was a pretty dire show. Well done to Birmingham for their well organized defense, but we should have done a lot better. Too many passes went astray and the team seemed to lack the necessary fire in the belly for most of the match. Chris Libertarian 09-22-2007, 11:37 PM yeh but the man makes the wrong choice week in week out. I'm no expert but you play your best side. Everyone can see that except Rafa no wonder his right hand man quit. I think Benitez should go he can't compete in the premiership. jon_hall 09-23-2007, 01:02 PM He needs to start with his best possible eleven. If we get 2-3 goals up midway through second half, then and only then should we be taking players off to rest them for the next game. Baffled yesterday, yes Babel wasn't great but why take him off and stick Kuyt on the wing? Especially with Pennant picking up an injury later. ChrisGeorge 09-23-2007, 01:37 PM Some of Benitez's choices have puzzled me from the word go. Offload Henchoz and Murphy and bring in the likes of Pellegrino and Josemi? scouse mouse 09-23-2007, 02:35 PM yeh but the man makes the wrong choice week in week out. Actually no, he doesn't make the same mistakes week in and week out, the difference is that when he makes changes and we win you don't hear a peep from the moaners and the Rafa bashers. I'm no expert but you play your best side. Everyone can see that except Rafa no wonder his right hand man quit. I think Benitez should go he can't compete in the premiership. The days of winning with a squad of 15 are long gone. And imho the only way you are going to put a very good squad together is to rotate them. I mean why the feck would a good player (never mind a great one) want to go to a club if he was going to sit on the bench for months on end. I agree that there are certain players that when fit should be regulars, Gerrard, Carragher, Reina, Agger and Torres. But the others, unless they are playing so well that Rafa has to leave them in are all going to get rested every so often. I think Rafa is a bit cautious at times but he's a great manager, his record speaks for itself and even after yesterdays disappointing show we are still right up there with the best. Seriously anyone who thinks that we should fire Rafa and start all over again doesn't make any sense if you ask me. scouse mouse 09-23-2007, 03:01 PM Some of Benitez's choices have puzzled me from the word go. Offload Henchoz and Murphy and bring in the likes of Pellegrino and Josemi? Rafa has brought in a lot of players Chris it's hardly fair to single out a couple of the lemons that he paid very little for. Sadly Henchoz was on his way out the door due to injury before Rafa came on board. I always liked Murphy but let's be honest he wasn't anything special, he hardly shone at Charlton or Spurs, I'd much rather have an Alonso, Mascherano or Sissoko playing in the middle. Hello Scouse Mght we assume from the following result either that Rafa wants to win the Carlton Cup more than the Premiership, since he kept Torres on the bench in the last two league games and began him in the Carling Cup against Reading. OR he has seen the light that he was wrong in not playing Torres from the beginning in the last two Premier League games? Your reaction please. Don't get me wrong. I want Liverpool to succeed as much as you do although I must agree with Suburban that Rafa's team choices are often baffling and frustrating. All the best Chris Reading 2-4 Liverpool: Torres hits treble (http://soccernet-akamai.espn.go.com/report?id=228951&cc=5739) scouse mouse 09-27-2007, 03:47 AM Hello Scouse Mght we assume from the following result either that Rafa wants to win the Carlton Cup more than the Premiership, since he kept Torres on the bench in the last two league games and began him in the Carling Cup against Reading. I'm pretty sure he wasn't saving Torres for the League Cup. Maybe he underestimated Birmingham, or maybe he really did think that Veronin would be better against their ultra defensive style ? One thing is certain, he's going to have a helluva hard time trying to justify leaving Torres out in the future. Libertarian 09-27-2007, 08:55 PM Its obvious rafa listened to his critics in the game against Reading but is he going to play Torres from the start against Wigan? Kev 09-29-2007, 10:09 AM Bellamy left beacause of the rotation system. He was crap though :PDT11 SteH 09-29-2007, 10:59 AM Bellamy left beacause of the rotation system. He was crap though :PDT11 I love it the way Bellamy is making out he chose to leave, hasnt he forgotten a certain night out in Spain in february. jon_hall 09-29-2007, 12:03 PM Possibly the same Bellamy who said he didn't want to go.
