As featured on that program about Victorian Britain. They put some effort into this place. Workmanship you just wouldn't see carried out today.

Some of the asylum has been demolished, some is being converted. Thankfully this bit, the admin block, is being retained. I nearly literally busted a gut getting in, but oh man it was worth it...

It's an amazing place. But then, so is our own Royal Infirmary...

Some photos from my second visit, this time visiting the clocktower, ward blocks and mortuary.

It's currently being redeveloped. Most of the ward blocks are being renovated and converted into apartments. The main admin bit with the clocktower is also being kept, although I'm not sure what for. Most of the corridors and other buildings will be demolished though.

That last pic spooks me out :ninja:

Wouldn't fancy living in a flat that was formerly a mortuary room! Sounds like the perfect scenario for a (far-fetched) horror novel :D

Thanks for the photos Snappel (from a scouser living in Shropshire).
You might be interested to know that my wife's grandfather - Charles Henry Denison - was the West Riding County Architect for the building of Menston all those years ago. I've never visited but it seems he did a good job!
