As our coach party arrived at Preston’s Guild Hall to share the enjoyment of our own RLPO concert, it occurred to me that through our orchestra’s well run society, how well we and our Preston friends fly the flag as ambassadors to our city.
It was a great opportunity to meet up with ‘Preston Friends of the Phil’, to bring them up to date with events here in Liverpool, to showcase our orchestra, and to share with them a mutual love of world class music played by a world class orchestra.
The concert itself was everything one could wish for; a mesmerising performance from Petrenko’s musicians. The Russian maestro is a 6’2” baton and one is left with the feeling that the notes of each performance magically pour from his fingers.
A remarkable and memorable performance and also an opportunity for two wonderful Lancashire communities to once again show that the best is north-west. Michael McLaughlin.
