Evening all,
I spent a day in the city this week for the first time in a good many years. While I studied at the University I lived in Claremont Rd Wavertree from 1988 to 1992.While mooching around checking on my old haunts , it struck me that the pub crawl we used to do known as the Smithdown 10 would now be a Smithdown 5 due to the closure of many of the old venues.
I found the Brook House and Willowbank similar to I remembered - the Willowbank was always my favoruite and my local
The Woodcroft was boarded up, the Royal Hotel was open. The pub I remembered as the Brook Farm was called the Mulliner but also boarded up, and everything next to it had been demolished.I don''t rmember the green spaces now visible around the pub - what use to be there (or am I mistaken)
The Newstead Abbey looked open, then the New Campfield looked to be a shop. The Boundary looked functional still I think. Then I seem to remember a dodgy place at the end of Lodge Rd called something like Ricks Bar ?? tho I couldn't remember where this was exactly - nothing to see there now.
Thats 9, which one have I forgotten?
I don't rmemeber the Dispensary tho was this Kellys Wine Bar?
Glad to see the Royal Tandoori still open - is it any good still?
The chippy on the end of Greenbank Rd has gone, and does anyone remember a place called Ikes near Claremont Rd - did a cracking Sunday breakfast and a massive Spag Bol as I remember? The lady host (Ike's wife??) was a stunner as I remember.
Would be interested in learning anything about whats happened roundabout here since I left!
