The upload system is working, make sure images are gif jpeg jpg and are less than 1000 px, i would try a test one of 500px.
Try it if nothing else works I can recommend Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/) and Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/)

I use photobucket. I edit/resize the images to 'messageboard' size. Then the ones I want to attach here I save to my documents.
when you click on 'manage attachments' then 'browse' - you should find them in your docs ok, and then they should upload no trouble.

once u edit them, save them as jpg

it's easy once you get the hang of it Philip.
I recommend photobucket because it is so easy. Upload photos into it; edit/resize them to 'messageboard size' - then click on and open the resized image and save to you documents. (best to name the images so they are easy to locate when browsing unless you can remember the codes)
Now, to post on the forum; click on reply, type any text you want to add, then click on 'Manage attachments' (underneath the reply box). Click on 'Browse' then select from your documents (click on open file) - then upload. Wait a second until file uploads, repeat according to how many pics you want.
When you have what you want exit the browser box.
Look for the attachment codes which now should be there in your reply box.
Submit reply. All should be well. :)
ps,
sometimes it takes a bit of practise.

I've had to use imageshack when the photo is too big to use the forum's own 'manage attachment' direct from my pictures folder.
Therefore I just upload the picture from my pictures folder using imageshack's browse facility then it asks you what size you want it 'ie' for forums, for message boards, for websites etc and copy and past the relevant code to my reply together with any text I want to add.
I'm evidence that it's idiot proof.

Hi all. Can you assist? Now, I'm used to FTP for putting photographs on a website but for the life of me can't get my head around putting them onto these forums.
I don't use a photo host and am not really sure if i want to get involved in such stuff. I do, however, have thousands of images I'm sure the members would find interesting. Many have never been published before. These are on my Mac and associated storage devices. Is there a simple process by which I can upload them directly from there without having to spend hours putting them on some intermediate storage site first? An idiot-proof walkthrough would be much appreciated! Thanks.
You can easily put thumbnails up by clicking on the post reply, scroll down to the attach files and click on manage attachments. Using the browse link that comes up retrieve the pics you want to post up from your p.c. whether they are in your 'my pictures' or 'my documents' or wherever. We can then click on the thumbnail to enlarge it once it's up. Don't forget to add text to accompany your photos.
PhilipG

It's just as well I'm not keen on thumbnails, because I've just tried again, but still no joy.
What gets me is that I have to put all my photos on flickr, and make them 'public' to post them on this site.
Has anyone tried

so easy, even I can use it.
Obviously click on browse and click on your photie, click on host it and I copy and paste the link directly under the big square advert and hey presto.

I can do it, but whether I can explain it is something else.
In flickr, click on 'All sizes'.
Copy the BOTTOM URL (even though you're supposed to use the top one!)
In yoliverpool open the post and click on 'Insert Image'.
Paste the URL OVER the text in the box and click OK.
Or delete that text and paste the URL.
I must warn you that Kev says we should link back to flickr, but I've never been able to learn how to do that.
Besides, they're my photos, and I'm paying flickr, anyway.

03-12-2008, 09:31 PM
To attach pics; click on to reply to a post, (or starting a new thread).
Type in whatever text you want in the post.
Click on 'manage attachments' which you will see in the box 'additional options' (under the bottom of the reply box).
A menu will come up. Click on 'Browse' then 'open'.
Select your pics from wherever you keep them (ie, my documents or my pictures)
Click 'upload' wait a second for it to upload, then select the next pic.
('you have to select each image one at a time.)
The image codes should then be lined up ready for when you 'submit' your post.
hope I havn't made that sound complicated ! :)
It's quite easy.
I find it better and quicker to upload if images have been resized smaller beforehand - sometimes if an image is too large it won't upload.
Best to have a practice.
lindylou
03-12-2008, 09:37 PM
Philip, I know what you mean about photos being for public viewing - Web-Shots is the same. I use Web-Shots only if I have numerous photos I want to share with someone - it's handy to send a link to your album istead of having to scan individual photos to someone.
For storing odd pics for the forum, I use Photobucket which is not public.

Try here: Posting Flickr Images (http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5996)
Lindy, I used to use the sites own manage attachments but sometimes the size of the pic is too much for the site and besides, it only allows thumbnail pics so that's why I use imageshack on the above link I posted and in 4 easy steps, the pic is up.

yes, you have to resize the images smaller before you attach them. If they are too large they won't upload.
I post image links straight from the host sometimes, but after a while I revert them to attachment thumbs - when I'm having a clear out in the photo host, I don't want billions of old photos clogging up the place and I delete them eventually.
Deleting them they will disappear from the post, so then you need to use the attachment facility before you delete if you want them to remain on the forum.
I've noticed that some posters who use their flickr site or website to post up directly, remove their photos if they leave the forum and of course if their sites are down for any reason, the photos disappear leaving the thread full of holes. They're quite entitled to do that of course, but it doesn't make for continuous reading very well.

I forgot to add that, as you know - you click on the attachment thumbs to bring them up on screen ... but if you click them again they will zoom in and come up larger.

I notice for jpeg images these have been reduced 10 fold to around 95kb. As most of my pictures start out at around 3 Mb, I'm finding reducing them to the new very low size a problem. Sorry I think your beyond help. You should just be able to upload your pics to photobucket and then store them in an album on that site. Then use the insert image button above and insert the URL from the image. (I think thats how you do it anyway) or send them to Kev or Ged and they will do it for you.
