Never knew there was an Army&Navy store by the old Railway Office?

Oh wow, the old Pierhead bus station being torn down.

I did try to find out who ran this site, but all I discovered was that it 'may' be run from Kiev. Which perhaps is not right. Then I found this...

I've looked through that site. Some good pics.

Looking at these photos of the Pier Head makes you realise how fantastic it is now - you forget what a dump it was ! -- http://www.memoriesofliverpool8.com/albums/album6.htm

It's hard to believe it was allowed to be such a grim place !

I don't think house decor was at the forfront of peoples minds in 1955?

It is Nickleby Street. Next one to us. I enlarged the pic until I could read it. I may know those people in the photo.

My mother stayed up all night to finish a room. She papered, did borders, got fancy................she always did. We always had carpet in the living room and 'parlour' and lino in the kitchen. My aunt Alice next door was the first one in the neighbourhood to have a TV so we went in to watch the kiddie programs (so did all the other kids in the street!)

Yes, I just threw my carpet out to have bare wood. In apartments you are supposed to have carpet but as we have 12 foot ceilings I can't believe it matters (dull the sound) it is an old apartment and you cannot hear each other anyway.

...and one of the Gaumont pictures shows the wierd roundabout system at the end of Aigburth Rd. by the bus shed entrance.

I remember being a bit confused there on my first few driving outings in the mid-60's...:)

It seemed normal to us as that is all we knew. It was weird. The bus stops were in strange places, you had to know where to go, very odd

We used to get the bus there when we were kids to go to our grandparents in Old Swan

Well, they fixed the roundabouts by getting rid of them...:)

I didn't recognize the place the first time I drove there after the bus shed was gone - it looked so different...
