My mum has a tomato plant though. kat2 08-25-2007, 01:13 AM I think there was something in the birkenhead news to do with allotments and somebody being awarded money to grow home produce. my dad produces alot of home grown stuff, and it sure is tasty, especially his tomatoes, and cucumbers. I think you can tell too, kat:) caterina 08-25-2007, 01:43 PM Hiyah Kat and Max yes home grown stuff is nicest we have just had a stir fry for lunch and at least weknow the veggies have not travelled far to our table a lot of stuff people pay for you can grow your own even on a windowsill.i have toms and peppers in the back havn, tgot a green house and my hubby grows over 40 diff types of stuff from taties yams pak choy Kohl Rabi Chard etc.i am having a go at growing sprouting seeds Alfalfa you can eat them 5 days just put 4 tsps in a clean jar with muslin over the top secured with a laggy band, then rinse them am and pm with luke warm water and after 3 days now there are loads of shoots bet kids would enjoy to grow.. Always with pressies of lettuce, surplus flowers etc. They are a great buch of people and are so laid back. Their little sheds have always got a kettle in them and a cuppa on the go. Maybe one day, I will try to grow some stuff myself. Mind you, I do have a few 'plant boxes' on my house boat in Amsterdam but nothing growing in them to breed envy from my neighbours. caterina 08-25-2007, 02:33 PM Hiyah Steven Nice to see you appreciate allotments sadly i think a good few either do not have the oppurtunity or the desire but myhubby was an ill man and now has a totally new lease of life. Allotments are like you said are communities and have the spirit that used to be along time ago a pity we have not got this sort of spiritnowdays . It must be nice your Houseboat pride and joy i expect. We lived in Caravans first 4 yrs of of our marriage in the 60,s .
