It's 800 years to the day since King John signed the city's first royal charter and Liverpool is planning a three-day party to celebrate.
Festivities get underway with the annual Mathew Street Music Festival now taking place at indoor venues throughout the city centre and with entertainment and attractions for all ages.
On Monday 27 August communities coming together as thousands of people will take part in more than 300 street parties across Liverpool.
The official party starts Tuesday 28 with a civic procession around the city centre and the showpiece of the day, the 800th birthday pageant. Featuring more than 800 perfomers decked out in costumes representing icons themes from Liverpool's past and present.
Liverpool's birthday party continues as pageant participants head to
festival squares. Join the crowds as the streets are filled with live music and entertainment.
And as the sun sets over the Mersey, preparations will be underway for a spectacular firework finale, which will light up the night sky from 10pm, illuminating some of the city's most iconic architecture and set to a soundtrack broadcast live on Radio City 96.7.
