Inept is probably the best word to use for Rob Styles yesterday, it might stop me from calling him a cheat.

ChrisGeorge 08-20-2007, 10:46 AM Inept is probably the best word to use for Rob Styles yesterday, it might stop me from calling him a cheat. Steven Gerrard's despair as Chelsea steal point by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post, Aug 20 2007 UPSET Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has urged referee Rob Styles to admit he made a mistake in awarding Chelsea a game-saving penalty at Anfield yesterday. And he also pointed an accusing finger at antics of the Chelsea players that he believes intimidated the Hampshire official. Styles pointed to the spot after adjudging Liverpool right-back Steve Finnan to have upended Florent Malouda in the 62nd minute of a controversial encounter. Television replays suggested the decision was harsh on Finnan, with the Chelsea man appearing to throw himself into the Republic of Ireland international as he dummied the ball. Story continues. . . Styles was a joke, not only for giving the penalty that never was but for being totally out of his depth for the whole game. I lost count of the times he was surrounded by bullying Chelsea players, Terry seemed to be at it the whole game and at one point Essien had not one but two hands on Styles. He didn't look like he had a clue. A good game and what should have been a good win ruined by Styles.:disgust: ChrisGeorge 08-20-2007, 12:29 PM I know the "we was robbed" phrase is used to death but it's hard to remember a better example. Chris Paul D 08-20-2007, 01:03 PM Referee Rob Styles will not officiate in the Premier League next weekend after mistakes in Sunday's match between Liverpool and Chelsea. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/6954211.stm Paul D 08-20-2007, 01:05 PM Still not as bad a Poll allegedly blowing his whistle as the ball crossed the line to deny us a derby win.:PDT10 SteH 08-20-2007, 06:11 PM I love Mourinho's comments along the lines that they've had decisions go against them at Anfield before so things even themselves out. He'll be haunted by the 2005 semi for the rest of his life. jon_hall 08-20-2007, 07:07 PM Yep he has gone on and mentioned the non goal, the goal that everyone else in the world bar Sky and Chelsea fans knew was over. He even gave us fainting praise which was a novelty in itself, he just can't leave it at that. They should have lost to the better team and with the help of sloppy finishing and an inept ref they got out of jail. And what the hell is Andy Gray doing backing us. I feel unwashed. Mark R 08-20-2007, 07:47 PM Did anyone see the Chelski banner with Liverpool: Trophy Free Zone? If we were to list on a banner the years Chelsea was a trophy free zone, it would have been the size of the Kop... Mark R 08-20-2007, 09:08 PM Alright but Liverpool should have put away their other chances to put the match out of reach of Chelsea. Chris You're right Chris. How many times have we seen us score and not get the crucial second goal and kill the opposition off? Hopefully this is a habit we will end this season. jon_hall 08-20-2007, 09:46 PM Did anyone see the Chelski banner with Liverpool: Trophy Free Zone? If we were to list on a banner the years Chelsea was a trophy free zone, it would have been the size of the Kop... Was quite funny and original for Chelsea. Can't wait to see their next european game with those lovely flags paid for by Abramovich. As sad as Newcastle and their bar scarves advertising Northern Rock. scouse mouse 08-20-2007, 11:17 PM Was quite funny and original for Chelsea. Well I suppose it's original if you don't count the "City Of Manchester Trophy Free Zone" that was on the Kop 20 years ago.:unibrow: Let's face it, Chelsea supporters next moment of originality will be their first. jon_hall 08-21-2007, 09:23 PM I can barely remember last week, how in the hell am i expected to remember 20 years back :PDT_Aliboronz_24: Ged 10-26-2007, 01:31 PM This thread's gone very quiet since last weekend :):):) SteH 10-26-2007, 11:32 PM This thread's gone very quiet since last weekend :):):) Proof that over a season these things even out Ged 10-29-2007, 11:13 AM I don't go for that - proof please? OR... Tell Colchester who had that cup goal disallowed that was so quick it hit the back stantion of the goal and came back out. They went out the cup and lost revenue that might have saw them buy more players to be promoted. Considering the original posting was calling a ref who made one penalty mistake inept, i'd say Clattenberg was atrocious and a cheat. Just my opinion and many thousands of others of course. ;) ChrisGeorge 10-29-2007, 01:05 PM It's a pity Clattenburg wasn't the ref yesterday. We could have done with a couple of penalties. :PDT11 Ged 10-29-2007, 01:18 PM Don't worry Chris, you'll score from open play soon enough, the law of averages says so (not counting Sammy of course) ;) SteH 10-29-2007, 08:47 PM I don't go for that - proof please? Bolton went down that season on goal difference, Everton staying up in their place. How many millions of unjustified tv money have Everton made by staying up by default.:unibrow: Ged 10-30-2007, 09:31 AM Quite correct regarding that first ever game at the Reebok - ie. First game of the season. Therefore Bolton had another 37 opportunities to secure their league place, you can't pin a relegation or league success on one game, isn't it called a marathon not a sprint etc etc....Either way though, it proves that the notion that it 'evens itself out' is nonesense. However, I have pointed out 3 cups that Lfc would not have won had a referee not bottled it - now they are one off games. Waterways 10-30-2007, 04:35 PM and lets not forget Bolton who were relegated in 1998 and took 3 years to get back to the Premier League after the referee failed to see the ball had crossed the line in a game between them and Everton which finished 0-0. How many millions of unjustified tv money have Everton made by staying up by default.:unibrow: That game was on the 1st Sep 1997, at the start of the season. The first league game at the Reebok (Bolton were the fisrt team to play at Goodison Park and Everton the 1st to play at Burnden Pk, and no doubt Bolton will be first at Kirkby). Everton were the better of the two teams. Bolton were relegated because they were beaten at Chelsea. Simon 10-31-2007, 12:12 PM Ste, I see you neglected to mention the foul on Southall in the seconds before that 'goal' never happened. Quite apart from the fact that it was at the beginning of the season and Bolton were rubbish for the remainder of it. Yes, as were Everton, but obviously marginally less. Ged 10-31-2007, 12:44 PM If we are to take isolated incidents, you could say we'd have 3 more points if the wrong (as he later admitted in his book) Graham Poll decision not to allow the Don Hutchison goal had been allowed. What Clattenberg recently got away with though Scot free were blatant result changing incidents that have all seemed to have been conveniently brushed under the carpet as though they never happened. The Rothmans book in years to come will just say Efc 1 lfc 2. I cannot remember a game where all the pundits, all the fans (even the lfc fans I know having a giggle about it - it's even too blatant to deny), all the nuetrals saying the same things - no buts, ifs or maybes whatsoever. Anyway - we have moved on and scored 5 good goals since, it may have done some good gelling them.
