Hi all

I found the following site on folk tunes which might be of interest.

Folk Music of England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and America. Tunes, Lyrics, Information, Historical Background, and Tune Related Links. (http://www.contemplator.com/folk.html)

Using the site's search function to search on "Liverpool" turns up many sea shanties which fans of the Spinners and other Liverpool folk groups will recall. Midi files are on the site to listen to or download as you choose. Many of these songs, such as "Paddy Doyle's Boots", were collected by late Stan Hugill (1906–1992) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Hugill), born in Hoylake and known as the "last working shantyman." Stan did much for folk music and also wrote the book Sailortown, a history of the world's sailortowns. See also the Stan Hugill website at www.stanhugill.com (http://www.stanhugill.com/).
