Hi everyone, I'm new to this, so do hope that I'm posting in the right place. No doubt a Moderator will move it to the correct place if not.
Years ago I was involved in producing a TV film, and the scriptwriter came from a place called NETHERLEY. Now, I lost track of Bob Cooper way back in 1976, and have been trying to locate him since then. We became great friends, and I came up to do some work with him in Birkenhead. we then lost contact, completely.
I have since googled his old address; Yeoman Fold, Netherley, and the post code was L27 9YH.What comes up now all these years later is a shop, in fact an Osteopaths in Aintree?
So, there's the mystery folks of Liverpool. An address that doesn't compute any more, A post code that is no longer, and a friend from Liverpool I cannot find.
Bob was short-ish, had a big beard, and was called The Mad Poet of Netherley at the time. He was a great scriptwriter too. Of course he would be quite old now, and may not even be with us any more? I would love to meet up with him after all these years.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
gerry.

Hello Gerry and Oudeis
I met the Bob Cooper who is mentioned on that poetry site several years ago when I was in Liverpool for a poetry reading. I might be wrong but from Gerry's description, I don't think it is the same gentleman. In fact I think the Bob Cooper, author of Drinking Up Time, that I met is a Geordie not a Merseysider.
All the best

Thanks Guys. I know this Bob Cooper, as he is a well known GEORDIE poet and writer, so sorry to say, not my Bob Cooper. I'm wondering how I can trace him from that old address "Yeoman Fold", in Netherley? The mystery deepens as I discovered that this address when put into an AA Route Planner or indeed a Google Earth trace...leads me to a place in AINTREE???
Tell me, as I am from south of Liverpool, well south...Whatever happened to "Yeoman Fold"? Did Netherley dissapear?
I listened in to a BBC link here on this area, so understand that in the pre-80's it was pretty dire, and that a lot of it was pulled down, was this what happened to "Yeoman Fold?" The only other information that I have is that Bob was big into Social Services help, you know giving his time to help others. A friend of actress margaret Tyzac too. Above that, I know no more. Thanks,
Gerry.

There is this Yo! thread from a while ago. Some that have posted there knew the area quite well.

Did your Bob Cooper have an agent back then? Has the Performing Rights Society got him on their books?

Hi Oudels, no, he was/is a freelance writer. I have checked our union ( Equity) and he isn't listed. PRS only deal with music and it's performance on premises, so no help there. Netherley connection isn't much help, but shows me what it was like back then. I am now going to look at Social Services for that area ( God knows how I actually know what the area was called, or where the offices were) but I shall try to contact Liverpool Council in the first instance, and see where it leads me. Ah, well. Thanks anyway. If I have any luck finding my old friend, I will pop back in and let you know.
Meanwhile, if you ever read or hear of The Mad Poet of Netherley, or Bob Cooper, drop me a line.

Are you sure about Netherley, there is a Netherton area close to Aintree?

There was a Yeoman Fold in Netherley, but a number of years ago there was a reorganisation of the area. Maisonettes were demolished new dwellings built and a renaming of a lot of the Brows/Folds/Closes.
A lot of the houses are still there, just with different names, but Yeoman Fold, which if I remember correctly were small groups of flats, are long gone.

Hi Chas, Hi Pete, Yes, definately NETHERLEY. Post Code was: L27 9YH.
Pete, thanks, I think that explains why "Yeoman Fold" is no longer there. Great pity really, as Bob was a really great Liverpudlian, funny and genuine, a real friend. I only met Bob through work on the film, and when it was done we kept in touch for a while, then, as we all do, we sort of stopped writing. Bob would be in his late sixties I guess now, that is unless he isn't with us any more. I wonder where they moved all these people to from Netherley? I know he had two girls, so I guess he wouldn't have gone far at the time because of schooling. Ah, well. If anyone can think of another way to track him down, drop me aline.
Be Lucky!
Gerry
ps Idea! How would I go about checking the Electoral Roll????

Similarly I work in the medical education field and am trying to track down contact details for a publisher in Paris of the name "Health Publications, Inc." You can imagine how many Google hits that name brings up! :disgust:
