View Full Version : Good news and Bad news
miguel 08-07-2007, 03:15 PM Two window envelopes in today's post: Inside the first was a cheque off the Inland Revenue for £150 for filing on-line. I am pleased as Punch for this unexpected windfall. Who can I treat?
I open up the other and it's a final demand from BT for £77. And then there's a knock on the door. It's the electricity meter reader. The bill will be about £70.
The question is this. Should I be happy or should I be sad? Is it just life? Is it something to do with Peter and Paul? Do you get days like that? I just can't figure it out.

be happy, you can pay 2 bills with unexpected money and have £3 left over for a pint:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
lindylou 08-07-2007, 04:42 PM Oh, it's just typical isn't it Miguel ! We find the same thing happens in our house - - we might get something and then you can be sure something else will turn up to snatch it away
true what Gnomie says though .. that at least you got your bills paid.
You should go on a killing rampage!
I would want to do that If I lost money that quick!
PhilipG 08-07-2007, 08:57 PM £70 for electricity!
Presumably that's for 3 months?
My DD for electricity is £68 a month, and that was reduced from £108.
Thankfully, I'm now in credit (which is why it was reduced to £68), but I still wish my quarterly bills were only £70.
You would have had to pay the bills even if you didn't have that windfall, so spend that on yourself :PDT11

How the hell do you spend that much on leccy?
miguel 08-08-2007, 11:55 AM ha ha ................ have you seen where I live? www.southerncomfit.com To the Manor Born isn't it? Those BIG bay windows at the back catch the sun all day long; it is like a conservatory. I live on my own so it's just nice and warm.
So £70 a quarter sounds about right. Don't forget, I have MASSIVE gas bills on top of that. There's another £5 a week for goodness sake.
PhilipG 08-08-2007, 12:40 PM How the hell do you spend that much on leccy?
I don't!
Before the prices went up, my average quarterly bill was about £90.
My meter hadn't been read in about 3 years and my bills were all estimates (despite me sending readings).
As I said, I'm in credit now (and the meter's finally been read), and when it gets to a decent amount, I'll claim it back.
