Frail Elaine Lordan, who ended up in hospital after collapsing twice, has "reluctantly" withdrawn from I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!

The former EastEnders star was discharged by doctors - but ITV bosses decided that still wasn't enough to know she'd cope on the show.

It's thought they were concerned Elaine, 39, wouldn't manage on the food rations or deal with a Bushtucker Trial.

It was all supposed to be a fresh start to Elaine's career after a fraught year for the actress personally.

She left EastEnders last summer and later confessed to being drunk while filming scenes as Lynne Hobbs. She was treated for alcoholism after leaving the soap.

Son James was born prematurely last December and spent the first few months of life in hospital with hernia problems.

And only eight months ago, in March, Elaine's mum died under a tube train in a suspected suicide.

An ITV spokesman said: "We have given a great deal of thought and consideration to Elaine's situation and have decided that she won't be returning to the jungle.

"The detailed investigations carried out by separate doctors over the last two days have shown her to be in good health.

"But ITV has a responsibility to all of the celebrities taking part in the show and, given what has happened...ITV has decided to err on the side of caution.

"Elaine has reluctantly agreed to withdraw from I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!"

Last year East 17 star Brian Harvey also left the jungle in the first week; he had entered a day later after hearing his grandmother had died just after he arrived in Australia.
