If your after Lenses Steve that will do you for every occasion then look no further than these..You'll never need another lens. http://www.nikonians.org/nikon/nikkor-18-200/ And one of these 10mm ultra wide angle for group shots and Landscapes. http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Sigma-10-20mm-f4-56-EX-DC steveb 08-01-2007, 09:45 PM Thanks Gerard, yes I know went out today taking photo,s of everything. I got this lens from HK £70 just going to do some tests with it but it looks promising. http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o102/steveb_04/300.jpg Gerard 08-01-2007, 09:49 PM Looks like yer gorra barrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgain there ste mate :PDT11 steveb 08-01-2007, 09:59 PM Looks like yer gorra barrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgain there ste mate :PDT11 Yes the plastic bit on the end is the lens hood, bayonet fitting just there for storage, brand new fdull Nikon warranty, will post a few pix when I get chance...The standard lens is an 18-55mm which covers wide angle and the new one takes over were standard finnishes Max 08-01-2007, 09:59 PM 70- 300mm eh, coooooool. I only have an 18 - 55mm at the moment with my D40. When I can afford to though I fancy a Sigma 10 - 20mm, I think their compatible with the Nikon D cameras. steveb 08-01-2007, 10:03 PM 70- 300mm eh, coooooool. Yes the D40 is a great camera but the lenses are a bit different in so much that they have the focus motor built in, so you can use other Nikon lenses but will have to focus manualy... Max 08-01-2007, 10:12 PM Don't they have a Auto focus button like on my 18 -55mm lense? steveb 08-01-2007, 10:53 PM Don't they have a Auto focus button like on my 18 -55mm lense? I have the same lens as you 18-55mm and it has as you say the A and M button. The difference between them D40 AF DX S and the normal AF lenses is the S have the focus motor in the lens and I think the AF relies on the camera motor. The 70-300mm I have is a G lens and dosn't have an aperture ring as like most AF lenses now the aperture is determined by the camera. petecarr 08-02-2007, 12:55 AM If your after Lenses Steve that will do you for every occasion then look no further than these..You'll never need another lens. http://www.nikonians.org/nikon/nikkor-18-200/ And one of these 10mm ultra wide angle for group shots and Landscapes. http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Sigma-10-20mm-f4-56-EX-DC Unless of course you need more than 200mm :p I've been using the 10-20 for nearly 2 years now. Brilliant lens. Just to point out, the shot doesn't really look like a true macro shot, more like a close up shot. DSLR's aren't like compacts. You don't put them in macro mode and take macro shots. You buy a dedicated macro lens and take macro shots. You have to be careful too because lots of lenses will say they have a macro feature but they don't. They just have the ability to focus close up to things, like this one seems to be. Dedicated macro lenses will let you count the eyes on a fly. There's the Canon 100mm, Sigma 105mm, 150mm and 60mm (i think). They're true macro lenses. Congrats on your purchase. :) kebabman 08-02-2007, 06:07 AM Happy playing with your new toy steveb. I am using Tamron 80-300 mm which is great when I am taking photo of something in distance... It is no good for macro shots. I am waiting for my new toy as well,I have purchased Tokina 12-24 mm lens, surely I am going to play a lot.. Lets hope nothing goes upside down for both of us:PDT_Aliboronz_24: We don't like accidents do we when we try to have a bit of fun!!!:) http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1396/981262853_81cd4a3627_o.jpg Kev 08-02-2007, 08:40 AM Is it just me now with the Sony Cybershot then? Bloody traitors! petecarr 08-02-2007, 09:34 AM Is it just me now with the Sony Cybershot then? Bloody traitors! Seems so :D But of course not everyone needs a DSLR but lots of people buy them because they see others using them. You could sell your Sony for a DSLR but then you'd be selling 1 camera for 1 camera and a bag of lenses. To get the best from your new DSLR you'd need to buy lenses more expensive than the Sony. So, for a lot of people its easier to stick with a bridge camera. One that looks like a DSLR and has a nice optical zoom. The 10-20mm sigma is a cracker..I haven't used it much as I want it mainly for group piccies...and yer right as well about a dedicated Macro lens.. More Dough spent...That 1 wont be for a while though..Cheers. Gerard 08-02-2007, 09:50 AM Is it just me now with the Sony Cybershot then? Bloody traitors! Yer on the Subs bench Kev..sacked :unibrow: Noooooooo yer not Lad...That Sony H9 is a cracker but was always Intended for me as a start before trying my hand at a Camera that gave me more control.. It will just take me about 4 years now trying to get the best out of all this "Control" and remebering what settings are for what as Im determined to get me 'ead around this photography M'larky if yer know worra mean.. Kev 08-02-2007, 10:04 AM Seems so :D , I'm from the streets so I'll be keeping it real. Its like that and that's the way it is, huh :RAP_1: Seriously though, I find my camera fine for what I want it for, although I must be honest and say that I had more pleasure from my H2 which PhilG now owns. From what I read the H9 was a step back for Sony and the H7 was a better model. I hear the Canon S5 has a nicer menu system making it easier to use. If you're looking to jump ship ;) Max 08-02-2007, 10:11 AM I couldn't go furthur and more powafal without a DSLR.:PDT10 I just sold my Sony H-2 yesterday. When I can afford a lense I was thinking about getting the Sigma 10 - 20mm.
