LIVERPOOL funny men Ricky Tomlinson and Ken Dodd have launched a bid to become Christmas number one.
The pair have teamed up for charity record, It's Christmas, and hope their dulcet tones will woo enough listeners into buying the CD to send it to the festive top spot.
Other Merseyside stars crooning on the track include comedienne Pauline Daniels, actor Danny McCall, and country singer Charlie Lansborough.
The celebrities hope the track will raise thousands of pounds for Alder Hey's Imagine appeal, which buys vital equipment for the hospital, and put the city at the top of the charts.
Tomlinson said: "People will be thinking 'who on earth are these lot!'.
"It's a perfect Christmas tune, really catchy. We are all in perfect harmony.
"Number one here we come." The song was written by Merseyside musician Bob Pitt when he was just a 15-year-old pupil at All Saints School in Kirkby and he has drafted in the choir from his old school to provide the backing vocals.
The 50-year-old chose the Imagine appeal because he spent four weeks at the hospital when he was a youngster.
He said: "I was born partially deaf but they sorted me out and I have always been grateful.
"I was in for about four weeks when I was eight years old and they cured me but that is not the only reason I wanted to do this.
