Those spiral chutes were removed from outside the Maritime Museum. I noticed a big crane shifting them a couple of weeks ago.

I tried to capture a bit of motion-blur, but the car was too fast for me, so I just caught the rear. I first noticed those banners early last week. I wonder if anyone (Council or Everton F.C.) will have them removed.
Time to play catch-up with the Picture of the day photos...after the Yoliverpool new server move.

So, it's closing down.
I've been there a few times.
Problem was, it was a bit too far for me to walk there, so I'd end up getting the bus to Rapid's.
There's only going to be the chippy left in that block, now that the Queens has closed.

Nelson Street/Great Georges Street.
I've always loved this building.
For years it has been covered with scaffolding, and some sort of dust sheet which has prevented it from being seen.
Now it is revealed in all its glory.
If a new roof can be put on this derelict building, why not the Florrie?

What a great building

What a great building

It is.
There's some confusion over what it was built as.
Most people, including Liverpool City Council call it the Scandinavian Hotel, but I don't think it was.
It was Langdon's from at least 1889. (Source: 1890 street directory).
The date of 1887 was painted when the new roof was put on, so I suspect that the owner knows something that we don't.
(Probably that it was built in 1887 for Langdons.)
I'm researching the history at the moment.

St James Church, St James Place, Toxteth was closed in 1972 and suffered the ravages of vandalism. This historically important building is now looked after by the Churches' Conservation Trust who have carried out substantial repairs. More needs to be done. There is a plan to try and re-open the building as a church to serve the growing population in the area. See Rev. Neil Short's Liverpool Pioneer Ministry web site:

Had a wander round All Saints graveyard,in childwall,(the oldest parish church in Liverpool!) and took some pic's of various memorial stones which,I thought, illustrated the age of the cemetary, and background, of some of the people buried there! From the simple, but effective, "Dearest Jack",to the rather more ornate family tomb, of Andrew Barclay Walker.(who funded the Walker art gallery) I was amused at the oldest one i came across,(1731)and the way the names and letters had been "made"to fit the stone:034:
(I did take more pic's, but batteries were failing:disgust:)

I'm researching the history at the moment.

Joseph Sharples has emailed me to say this building was built about 1858 for Abbott's who were cabinet makers.
It was designed by Henry Sumners who was responsible for a number of churches and the Southern Hospital.

My research has found that the date of 1887 refers to when the building was taken over by Langdon's.
The Scandinavian Hotel was in Duke Street - behind this building - and was demolished in the early 1930s to make way for an extension to Langdons.
