I'm trying to do a little project and get people's views on the film...
Yes, i've got it, very weird that girl in the nak banging on the wall to the music whilst Edward Woodward is lying in bed all mystified instead of getting in there and sewing his oats.

He was a virgin.
That was the whole point of the film.
They needed a virgin sacrifice.

exactly right Philip
That's why he makes such a good sacrifice
Exactly, so if he'd got in there and done the dirty deed, he'd have been saved. Virgin on the ridiculous just lying there :)

the islanders choose him because they know he least likely to give in to Willow.
He doesn't believe in 'IT' before marriage
I don't remember him having a computer in his room?

Love the film, had a mate who was a pagen swore by this film.
he used to live in Prenton, on the Wirral, Barry where are you now.
Lying in bed no doubt, hoping and waiting for the faint tapping of palms on the party wall whilst wild music plays.

Brilliant film. Not seen the recent remake but not sure I want to. The old one was good enough.
Can't beat a good British film :handclap:

Hi DaisyChains
Yes I suppose that is what makes the film! If I am correct, Anthony Shaffer (who wrote the screenplay for The Wicker Man), and twin brother Peter Schaffer [writer of Amadeus and Equus] were born in Clubmoor, Liverpool.
Here's a link you might find interesting:

I notice Hayley Mills on your avatar. I was watching Twisted Nerve last night (which starred Hayley) but fell asleep halfway through it! (I remember watching it years ago a few times).

Hi Mark
Thanks for the link!
I am a bit of a Wicker Man obsessive (did i just admit that out loud?!)
There's something about the film that captures my imagination.
Awww dear old Hayley...she's just great!:)

I think there is a book of film locations that includes the areas used in the film. I'm sure I read somewhere that Juliet Cadzow (Edie McCredie from Balamory [I don't watch it honest, my niece used to watch it!!]) appears in the film. I think it works well because the setting is unique. Like the music too. I think Britt Ekland's voice was dubbed for the film.

the britt being dubbed rumour has never been proven either way...i don't think it was, because it does sound like her actual voice. Her singing voice was dubbed.
Rosie Miller from Eastenders is in it too as Rowan....hehe
It's showing at FACT next tuesday

They said on a documentary that her voice was dubbed and that she couldn't master the Scottish dialect. I agree with you though, I think her spoken dialogue sounds like her voice.
At FACT? Might check that out. I went to see Don't Look Now there about 2 years ago.

There's nothing like seeing a film on the big screen. I went to see PSYCHO (the Hitchcock original and not that godawful remake) in 1997 at the Philharmonic and it was fantastic. It is my all-time favourite movie (I've seen it well over a hundred times) so seeing it on the big screen made it even better.

I think it will be great knowing that all of the people there are fans of the film too. A great atmos hopefully!

Great movie. One of a kind. Without doubt one of the oddest films ever made and I love every second of it. The bits with Chris Lee singing are particularly good. Turns out he very nearly trained to be an an opera singer instead of an actor...not a lot of people know that:ninja:

And its the only film that I have ever been psychologically disturbed by. Its intriguing, and you KNOW that somethings going to come off, but you can't help but be pulled in by it all.
Perhaps Christopher Lee's best film.

Yes, Lee said it his own personal favourite role. Went to see it recently at FACT. Great on the big screen. It is a depressing end but that is what makes the film. A happy ending and the film would not have had the same impact.

We did not see the Wicker Man but my wife sat and chatted to him on many occasions >>
Alas, the poor man is no longer with us. He was taken away by that well known tribe "The Vandal Hoodies".
