Why's everyone so shy?

Being a Forum-Fan I like the er, social intercourse; the repartee, the buzz, input and information on so many topics. But I am a little puzzled at the anonymity of many posters.
Are they just shy or is there a safety or freedom from the confines of a worn burkha? Yes, it's a little like one of those Viennese masked balls where everyone can have fun without revealing their identities. Just an idle thought over the breakfast table.

I assume many people like to observe threads progressing at a distance but still like to be part of the community, still showing their support.

Its great to see some members who havn't been around for a while n recently too.

Many of our visitors shown in the stats area have come via an external search engine therefore might not necessarily be looking for a forum community to become part of, rather using it as a resource and for information.

Although some may not come on here with their real name, they advertise their websites, myspace or flickrs where you may find their real name.

I have been on another couple of sites in the past, anonymous and causing mischief as a WUM

Hiyah Chippie i think sometimes people are shy cos they have maybe been picked on on other sites this site is a good un none of that hear you can have a sensible debate without some going off in a huff.

I have posted photos of myself quite a few times.

It depends how comfortable you feel about divulging info about yourself.

You have to be careful -- you don't know what nutters are out there !! .. not that we have any on our good forum. lol !



People reading forums and never posting are sometimes known as 'lurkers' in some on-line communities.
- although Kev has a point about some people using the forum for access to information rather than a place to chat.

*ROFL*, I find it odd that somebody whom starts a thread about anominimity (cant spell for well, anyway) should post up a picture of a coin!!!

Always happy to be corrected, Kat; it's the way you learn. I just checked my dictionary and sure enough, anonymity is spelled ANONYMITY.
I will drop the publishers a line and tell them that Kat said they can't spell any better than Michael can.
