This is normally a weekend event which provides free admission to properties which normally charge or are not generally open to the public. However in Liverpool it is being extended over a longer period.
Here is the link for the properties that are participating http://www.heritageopendays.org/ed/merseyside/liverpool/
It includes a free tour of the Chambre Hardman Photographic Studio at 59 Rodney on 8th September. This like many of the other events have to be booked in advance and I do know that places go very quickly.
I am sure the list will be added to so it is worth checking on a regular basis.

I'm not very up for seeing the Hardman studio since I read that you can't snap pics of Inside the place like with most English Heritage owned houses/places.
My dad wants to see It though, I'm waiting for a clear day so once I've seen It I can go elsewhere with the camera.
DOZENS of historic properties in Merseyside and Cheshire will open their doors for free entry next month.
From a behind-the-scenes viewing of the George’s Dock Ventilation Station in Liverpool to a visit to a lighthouse in Wallasey, people will have the chance to explore fascinating buildings, many of them normally closed to the public.
The four-day event takes place from Thursday, September 6, to the following Sunday. It is co-ordinated by the Civic Trust with support from English Heritage and an army of 30,000 volunteers.
Highlights include a visit to the George Dock Ventilation Station for Queensway Tunnel, a guided nature walk along Eastham Heritage Trail, and a tour of 17 William Morris windows, some newly restored, and a Henry Willis organ at St Nicholas’s Church, in Liverpool.
FOR more inform-ation on times and pre-booking details, check the Heritage Open Days website at http:// www.heritageopendays.org or ring 020 7539 7907.

If you can manage to call into the O8 Place in Whitechapel there is a booklet listing every thing that is available and it is far more extensive than that given on the web site. They were out of supplies over the weekend and are expecting more in next week but there is a reference copy to look at.
I am listing some thing below which are not on the web site
Tours of the Liver, Cunard and Port of Liverpool Buildings - Fridays only I believe. Booking through Liverpool Direct 233 2008
Tours of the Playhouse theatre no dates given tel Vicky Adlard 709 9111
Tours of Liverpool Town Hall Monday 10th Sept pre booking required tel 225 5530
Night time visits to the Radio City Tower -Monday 10th Sept pre booking essential tel 472 6800. Remember to quote 'Heritage Open Days' when booking and your visit will be free. I did this visit a couple of weeks back and the nighttime views were spectacular.
A Lecture on the famous criminal trails at St Georges Hall Monday 17th September at 1PM

So many places. So little time.
It's so frustrating.
Most of these places are only open on this one weekend in the year, and you're always spoilt for choice.
