There's something to be said for movies in black and white. For example, Rebecca and some other Hitchcock and other period films that simply would not be the same if they were in color. Close Encounter is another film that comes to mind that is simply wonderful in black and white. Perhaps it is something to do with being in that closed-in world on an English 1940's train platform in a narrow period of time but somehow black and white seems exactly right for this movie.
