I've added a hack that automatically resizes every posted image which is larger than 640px.

This will keep the forum widths the same size, even when a wide image is posted.

Images that are larger will contain details in an information bar giving information about the original dimensions and filesize. (Example below)

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1283/870826008_d0101ec9d6.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/ijob/870826008/)

You can then click on the file information bar to open up the larger image!

This is perfect for those large panoramas or landscape images or those larger images that you post :)

If you run into any problems, let me know asap.

So all images posted on the forum have to be 640x480? Otherwise they will be resized.

For those who use imageshack.us to host images, there is a facility which can resize your images to this size. Just go into the drop-down menu next to "Resize image".

Great idea btw Kev, although all of mine are 800x600, 640x480 will be better for those who have a slower Internet connection.

There's no rule about image sizes being posted, otherwise we wouldn't have those wonderful panos posted, this helps as it gives the user the option of seeing the whole image if they want to, plus it keeps forum widths the same.

The only drawback is that the images must load first on your pc before they are resized in your browser, the quicker your connection, the faster they resize.

The resizer takes the worry out of posting pics that are larger than the forum width.

Glad you like it. :PDT11

This feature isn't for attachments which still need to be below 800x800 pixels in dimension.

Hi Kev

Is there any way of turning this feature off? My browser (Opera) doesn't like it, it gets all slow and jerky when scrolling past these re-sized pictures. Not just on Yo but other sites that do the same. I think it's more my ageing computer than the browser itself :PDT11

Cheers
Iain

If anyone is experiencing simlar situations with the image re sizer, (eg) firefox users, as in Iains post, then a work around has been suggested by hiding bookmarks. I am not sure why this works, but it is a well known issue with browsers such as firefox ect.
