having worked at both grounds i know a lot more people from outside the city attend Liverpool games than Everton. it is no myth, it is a fact shared by many Liverpool fans i talked to at the games. some Liverpool fans are fed up not getting tickets when so many from outside the city get them, just ask them and they will tell you so.

this added to a USA ownership, a Spanish Manager and football team, makes it funny to hear reds fans call us wooly backs for moving 4 miles up the road .

I've seen it too Gnomie, but Liverpool have attracted out of town suupporter for as long as I can remember, it's the price of success I suppose.

The myth I was talking about is the one that some Evertonians would try to have you believe, basically that Everton are the Peoples Club or the Club of the People which is silly to say the least.

Everton have got great supporters, they stick with the team through good times and bad, but they are deluding themselves if they think that the same thing exactly doesn't apply to Liverpools supporters.

Forget the out of towners, go to any street in any part of the city and you'll see as many reds (if not more) as Evertonians.

Alex "Sandy" Young (Born February 3, 1937, in Loanhead, Midlothian) is a former Scottish footballer. He was a prolific goal-scorer in Everton's 1962/63 championship season. He first played for Newtongrange Star in Midlothian but soon joined Hearts making his debut at the age of 18. He helped Hearts win the Scottish First Division chanpionship in 1958 with 20 goals. Two seasons later he scored 23 goals when Hearts won the title again.

He was signed for £42,000 by Harry Catterick from Hearts in November 1960 but was not an immediate success. However his partnership with Roy Vernon soon blossomed. Young scored 22 league goals in the 42 league games in the 1962/63 season and made many other goals. His elegant touch earned him the nickname of 'The Golden Vision' and caused much adulation. (Danny Blanchflower originally coined the name Golden Vision. In his words, it conveyed "the view every Saturday that we have of a more perfect world, a world that has got a pattern and is finite. And that's Alex – the Golden Vision.")

In addition to the championship, Young won an FA Cup winners medal in Everton's epic win in 1966. Young also won two caps for Scotland. Young scored 87 goals in 273 appearances for Everton before leaving for Glentoran in 1968. Young later played briefly for Stockport County for 23 games before a knee injury forced his retirement.

Once during an Everton home game, Young had been named as substitute. The crowd had been losing patience with the team when the stadium announcer had to read out an SOS message for someone in the crowd, coincidentally also called 'Mr Young'. The roar of approval was the loudest noise that afternoon.

Young ran his family's upholstery business in Edinburgh before retiring. He also had the pleasure of watching his son follow his lead and become a professional footballer in the 1990s. However, Jason Young could not match his famous father's prowess, and spent his career mostly in the Scottish lower divisions.

Belatedly, in August 2001, Everton gave Alex Young a testimonial at Goodison Park, with over 20,000 turning out to salute him.

Slight difference though that you appear to miss. LFC sell out the majority of games that makes it difficult for non season ticket / PTS memebers to get tickets local or not. Everton rarely sell out. Simple economics means irregardless of where you come from it'll be easier to get to watch Everton. 33,000 went to Everton v Chelsea last season and some Everton fans had the cheek to blame Chelsea for not bringing a lot of fans. Since when did the away fans get ovet 7,000 tickets?

In town i see more LFC shirts than Everton, and i'm in town every single day of the week.

funny how much banter flies round on Everton threads though.

as i pointed out i worked at both football grounds and met and talked to many of the fans. a lot of Liverpool fans told me how hard it was to get tickets, and that they where fed up of so many fans from outside the city where getting tickets before them. their words not mine. i also met more foriegn fans at Liverpool than Everton, lots of Scandanavians and German fans. ask a few Liverpool match goers and they will tell you the same. i also met foriegn fans at Everton, but not on the scale of Liverpool.

sadly it seems i can not say a word on a Liverpool thread here as it comes across as having a go. loosen up and enjoy the banter. oh i forgot you cant. never mind i will save my banter and chat about Liverpool fc for other forums that have more chilled out Liverpool fans on.

The phone-ins after it suggested that certain out of towners buy their season tickets and then when on sky, don't always turn up, much to the annoyance of genuine locals who want to go.

Again with the myth.

Liverpool haven't won the league in 17 years yet we've still had bigger average gates than Everton for all that time. even the seasons Everton won the League or a Cup we had bigger gates.

Even back in 1985, arguably Evertons best ever season when Everton won the League and the Cup Winners Cup Liverpool averaged more at the turnstiles winning nothing that season btw.

You've got to go back 37 years when Everton won the Championship 1n 1970 for the last time Everton averaged bigger crowds than Liverpool.

Myths..what Myths?

fact . I am an Evertonian.
fact. I could not give a stuff what Liverpool win
fact. your ground is full of out of towners
fact. plenty of people who never attend a match jump on the Liverpool bandwagon when they are winning.
fact. Everton fans dont care what Liverpool fans say. we dont care how many trophies you talk about or how big your ground is or what player you have signed. all we care about is our own fantastic football team. the team we love.
It seems to me as if Liverpool fans are hell bent on trying to prove a point to Everton of their superiority...you must be very insecure with your team if all you ever worry about is how much better than Everton you are.

but you will never understand how fantastic it is to support a great football team like ours, we live and breath our team, we follow through every up and down, we are a family as one. FACT:PDT11

and before you go replying" Myths" , "get a life", "open your eyes", "bitter Bluenose"( all favourites of sad Liverpool fans ) just remember that i am an Evertonian. Liverpool have no power over me. what they do is meaningless to me. we dont sit around fretting how well Liverpool are doing or how superior they are, No we sit around laughing at them lording it up. in our eyes your shoite:) and always will be

so when you get all high and mighty, remember the words of the great Lauren Cooper.

Hail, Hail, The Everton are here,
What the hell do we care,
What the hell do we care,
Hail, Hail, The Everton are here,
What the hell do we care now ...
For its a Grand Old Team to play for,
For its a Grand Old team to see,
And if you know the history,
Its enough to make your heart go
Woooooooaaaaaaarrrrrrr!!!

We don't care what the REDSHOITE say,
What the hell do we care,
For we all know,
That there's going to be a show,
When the Everton boys are there

Myths..what Myths?

fact . I am an Evertonian.
fact. I could not give a stuff what Liverpool win
fact. your ground is full of out of towners

See you were doing so well there mate

Yes you are an Evertonian, and well yes you are one of those Evertonians who doesn't seem bitter about our success, but even you find it impossible to string three "facts" together without falling back on the myth that our ground is full of out of towners.

Don't you see what a silly statement that is ?

We have had bigger average gates for THIRTY SEVEN years in a row, we do it when we win we even do it when Everton wins and Liverpool loses.

We even did it at least one season back in the 1950's when Liverpool were in Div 2 and Everton were in Div 1.

I suppose that was down to out of town supporters too ?

It just doesn't make an ounce of sense does it ?:

Seriously Gnomie, I've never had a problem praising Everton's support, they have a good fan base that stick with them through thick and thin.

I just don't understand why you seem so desperate to paint Liverpool's support as fickle glory hunting, out of towners.

It's just not true, but for some reason so many Evertonians really need to believe this ?

It is true

as i have stated twice i worked at both grounds, talking to the fans i met many many outsiders at Liverpool. a lot more than Everton.

Many many Liverpool fans complain they cant get tickets because they are going to fans from outside the city. and it will get worse with the new ground.

so are they wrong? they are the fans. the true fans who cant get a ticket.

Every time I go back (usually 2 or 3 times a season) I get allocated different tickets. Yes I see some Irish, some Scandinavians (not as many as some would have you believe) and hear accents from other places too.

But the vast majority of supporters are Scousers, just like most season ticket holders are all from Liverpool too.

Of course we have a lot more than Everton, we have a much larger fan base in the UK and around the world, as I've said before that's the price we have to pay for our success.

It's also the reason why we can attract high profile investors and better players, so every cloud and all that.

As far as locals not getting in I'm sure this is true to an extent. Many of those who sit in the pub moaning that they can't get in because of Sven or Paddy are just making excuses though. I deal with the ticket office on an almost daily basis, if you are prepared to put a bit of effort in the tickets are available, the problem is that most of those supporters just don't try hard enough.

Btw, it won't get worse it will get much better for the locals once the new ground goes up in 2010, season ticket holders (and most are from Liverpool) will get first dibs, then those on the waiting list will come next (most on the waiting list, certainly those who have been on it the longest are mostly from Liverpool too).
