MORE than 1,500 performers will take part in a spectacular pageant to mark Liverpool’s 800th birthday.
The two-hour parade on August 28 will begin at St George’s Hall before making its way along the Churchill Way flyover, Dale Street, Church Street, Lord Street, Whitechapel, St John’s Lane and Lime Street.
The performers will be led by a 15ft “giant”.
Communities are being asked to provide myths, legends and stories about the city that will bring the giant – designed by arts company Strange Cargo – to life.
Council leader Warren Bradley said: “August 28 is in many ways the climax of 2007, and we want the people of Liverpool at the heart of the celebrations.”
Artists are setting up camp in World Museum Liverpool and encouraging members of the public to come to special workshops this weekend, on Saturday from 11am to 1pm and 2-4pm, and on Sunday from 11am to 1pm.
On Friday, August 3, there will also be a public open day from noon to 3pm when people will be able to suggest a name for the giant. source (http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2007/07/19/a-happy-birthday-pageant-100252-19476650/)
