LIVERPOOL’S first ever “green” music festival will take place at the city’s cricket ground in Aigburth in August.

And last night cult Liverpool band Shack launched the event with a performance in the courtyard of a city centre bar.

They are just one of the acts that will be appearing at the eco-friendly Livefest on August 11.

Organisers say the one-day event is aim- ed at all the family. Along with Shack, other acts confirmed so far include Alabama 3, best known for the theme tune to the hit TV show The Sopranos.

Festival director Tony Rothwell said: “Not only have we managed to secure acts from around the world but some of Liverpool’s best talent will also be on offer.”

£95 for a family ticket seems a bit harsh...

Livefest is the Northwest’s first green music festival. A host of international acts including Alabama 3, Hayseed Dixie and Shack, as well as the cream of local and unsigned talent, will be performing at the one-day event at Liverpool Cricket Ground, Aigburth, on Saturday 11th August.

Livefest is Liverpool’s alternative contribution to a festival season packed with the same line-ups, an event that the whole family can enjoy, with a green outlook supported by Unison and following the principles outlined in their campaign Green Unison, including the use of renewable energy sources, boosting energy efficiency and creating a sustainable and integrated transport policy.

Best of all, you can win a pair of tickets to Livefest, including accommodation for the night and the chance to meet the bands playing. Just enter the competition on the Livefest Myspace!

Far too expensive.

It's on the opening day of the footy season
and there's a free gig on in St Helens on the same day.

I can see this being another "2 for 1" Knowsley type thing
a few weeks before it, when they realise they've hardly
sold any tickets.

I'll be in Villa Park anyway.

The first time I'll have missed a Shack show in Liverpool since
their legendary L2 gig on the 2nd November 1999

(8 pound a ticket for that gig by the way)

Oops sorry I missed that Paul!

Would love to sort you with tickets but can't have a Blue Peter-style competition fixing scandal on our hands! :D

Music festival forced indoors

Jul 20 2007 by Vicky Anderson, Liverpool Daily Post
THE summer’s unseasonal weather has forced a forthcoming music festival indoors.

Livefest, billed as the North West’s first eco-festival, was to take place at Liverpool Cricket Club on August 11.

It will now go ahead at Liverpool University‘ venue’s Mountford Hall.

Organisers are concerned that weeks of rain will have made the cricket ground unsafe.

The festival is headlined by Alabama 3 with Shack, Hayseed Dixie, Tobias Froberg and local talent also on the bill over two stages.

Festival director Tony Rothwell said: “Obviously it’s not an easy decision to make but we feel there is little choice.”

The ticket price has been reduced to £25.

Anyone who has a ticket for the original venue should contact Ticketline and Ticketweb for further information.

Thanks Ginger! You guys are on the ball! Here’s the official line from Livefest:

“After much deliberation and discussion, the decision has been taken to move Livefest to Mountford Hall for the Saturday August 11th date in Liverpool.

The move has been made to take account of the great British weather – which has been raining pretty much everyday for two months - and the effect this has had on the Aigburth cricket ground. With more rain forecast in the coming weeks, safety concerns have led the Livefest team to conclude that in the circumstances the best viable alternative is for the festival to take place indoors at Mountford Hall.”

At least the event is still going ahead – the competition on the Livefest Myspace is still open too!
