Yes, Max, in the American War of Independence, French troops under Rochambeau and the French navy under de Grasse did help defeat the British. It was actually touch and go who would win before the French arrived in force to help the Americans at the Battle of Yorktown in October 1781. Ultimately, the British commander Lord Cornwallis was forced to surrender to General George Washington, leading to the British granting independence, which the Americans claimed in the Declaration of Independence signed in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776.

Yes Max, this was probably the most classic case of traitorism (?). The merchant, landowning and slave owning class of colonists didn't object to British soldiers and sailors spilling their blood to protect them from the French enemy but, when asked to pay something, through taxation, towards the cost of that protection, balked and entered into a traitorous deal with the enemy against their own kith and kin. 36 years later they, the Americans, sided with the French Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte, and attacked British North America (Canada) resulting in precious forces having to be redeployed from the European front and the defence of Britain, to repel the American invading army and safeguard Canada.

The most flouted declaration of independence and the flowery words that "All men are created equal" is another American myth. Not included in that "all men", were women, the landless, slaves, natives, indentured servants, loyalists and immigrants of both genders. In fact, until very recently, that declaration still only payed lip service to first nation Americans and the descendants of African slaves and, even today there are certain US citizens who cannot aspire to the highest office in that land. So, and it would seem that in the US at least, not "ALL" men are created equal.
