View Full Version : Glasgow now
naked lilac 06-30-2007, 05:58 PM :eek:Breaking news on the Tele.. Glasgow Airport has just been invaded by a car flying into the main terminal.. FIRE and all.. the guy tried to flee but was apprehended.. This is insanity ... why is the question.. I assume more info later today here...
Yes, apparently 2 men drove at around 30mph into the arrival/ departure lounge, car busts into flames, men stagger out on fire with a gas canister, everyone goes crazy, member of the public tackles one man to the floor, men arrested soon after. Looks like they tried to inflict casualties upon members of the public. Whilst on fire, one of the men tried to open the car boot, probably to create more devastation.
snappel 06-30-2007, 10:38 PM It has been announced that is is connected with the events in London yesterday.
It's a shame really, that people have to do this kind of thing. They're achieving nothing. Even their fellow Muslims abhor this kind of behaviour.
What Gerard said yesaterday then could be reality, ok, not St. John's precinct in particular but it could just as easily have been Liverpool airport targeted.
snappel 06-30-2007, 10:54 PM Yes, totally. This incident shows that you can be in the UK 500 miles from London and still not be safe. I think terrorists will try smaller cities soon anyway - the security isn't as tight as in London, plus it'll make the feeling of unease nationwide rather than focused in London.
But as I said in the London thread, I'm not going to worry about it on a daily basis. The general trend is bad - I hate it that these people need to do this kind of thing, and it's only going to get worse, but... One of the most inspiring things I read was a book about the Blitz in Liverpool, and how with every bomb that fell the people got stronger, more resiliant and didn't let it bring them down.
Although the advice is always carry on life as normal otherwise you're letting them win, it's hard not to be on edge...
I'll be in London next weekend for the start of the Tour de France. Saturday of course is July 7th, two years to the day since the bombings. Lots of people, no security gates as such cos it's on open streets... I'm on edge :noid:
That's the spirit and the only way to look at it - and be vigilant, it's easy to think when you see something suspicious, 'nah, can't be - not here'.
snappel 06-30-2007, 11:07 PM Yes, very true. Better to report something that turns out to be nothing, and look like an idiot, than to not bother and see it blow up on the news later...

I'm from Glasgow originally, moved to London, been in the vicinity of two bombs going off and one suspected bomb. I got on with life, it is hard, but if you worry, they've won.
