TV recently had a rare showing of the 1951 released film, 'The Clouded Yellow' starring Trevor Howard and Jean Simmons. The finale of the film was filmed on location in Liverpool on a railway track (not main line) running parallel to some docks. In one scene a small pannier type steam locomotive (No 4 ) was seen bearing the letters MD&HB. Another small loco (No 21) also appeared briefly.

Has anyone any idea of the exact location, and what did the letters on the loco stand for?

It was indeed the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board.
The line ran under the Overhead Railway, down the Goree, presumably to link the North and South Docks.
I've seen a photo.

Be Careful with reel streets,they would not pay me,I had about 60/70 piccies going back 50 years related to Gerard Gardens and the same modern day piccies showing the same locations. (Mine..taken by me)

I was in contact with these people for months Ged and have never told a dickie bird this until now..AND I HOPE THEY SEE THIS...

All the talk about paying money for old shots that relate to British movies from say 50 years ago with a modern day shot that shows the same shot 50 years later with a Landmark in that shows it is a modern day piccie (are yer still with me !) of the same location is a load of crap and the best advise I can give anyone relating to reelstreets is DO NOT send them any pictures no matter what they tell you.

They even put my bloody life story on the Internet and as far as I know its still there....Paddywack Thinks Im a celebrity cause of what I told them in an Email..Or I thought it was an Email just having a chat..Like This..And Im telling this fella about Gerard Gardens and Violent Playground and this that and the other and he wants to know more and Im thinking he's alright this mush so I tell him more about me Mam and the Ponnie and me Kids and blah blah blah and next thing people are ringing me asking me why have I got a Website and Im going WTF are yer on about and they all want me autothingy.

But presumably "the locomotive (No 4 ) . . . bearing the letters MD&HB" might be anywhere along the line of docks not just at the Goree, which ran behind the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board office at the Pier Head, unless there's some indication the shot was taken there.

As I remember it the line went most of the way under the overhead railway from one end to the other.
