View Full Version : Boddington's Brewery
snappel 06-26-2007, 09:43 PM I've just been re-doing a few pages on my website, including the one for Boddington's Brewery. Apparently demolition work has started now, and the future of the chimney is in doubt. A big shame really as it's quite iconic.
Anyway, these pictures are just over a year old, but were taken soon after the brewery closed. More here (http://www.level-two.co.uk/report.php?locname=boddingtons).

Did ye take any of those coasters?:PDT10
snappel 06-26-2007, 10:01 PM No - security there could be easily seen from in the building. Plus when we were in there a van pulled up inside the site, so we knew there were guards about. If you get caught with just one small thing, like a beer mat, you can be done for theft. Too big a risk I'm afraid! Used to take hundreds from pubs though, back when me and my brother used to collect them...
It would be a shame if something as iconic as that chimney was demolished :Smiliz_Kingz_PDT_13
jon_hall 06-26-2007, 10:35 PM Pity what's happened to it, just thankfull that the brewery THEY took over still exists in Stanhope St.
snappel 06-27-2007, 09:02 AM The Cains one seems to be going strong. The brewery tour is well worth it if you get a chance...
I've noticed the demise of Boddies each time I go to the M.E.N., even their little nearby pub closed down which was handy for the arena.

Supposed to have done it about 5 times since i moved back, and still haven't got round to it.
Why wasn't I told It was a Manc Brewery?

Done it twice, and I breathe in the fumes every day when I cycle past it coming home from work :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
The 2nd time I went there, one of my mates went along though he's a teetotaller so he gave me his free drinks vouchers at the end of it :unibrow:
we need to organise a forum meetup and tour of Cains.

I thought it was common knowledge? Boddington's was always brewed in Manchester.
Should everything to do with Manchester be specifically marked to say so? Is there a problem with it being in Manchester? Without manufacturing towns like Manchester, Leeds and Huddersfield there would never have been the rapid expansion here in Liverpool.

I was kidding really since were supposed to have a rivalry with Manchester.:PDT10
I like the architecture of the building looking at yo pics anyway.
WilliamBrown 06-28-2007, 05:43 AM Snappel - now I know where all the beer mats went to!! I looked at all their pubs in Manc in the early 70's when Tetley's was thinking of making a bid for them. They were not in a good state - but the ale was great and my judgement slightly blurred (ha ha). Mind you the beer was always good even in the pubs with sawdust on the floor!! Yep another brewery icon falls more's the pity.

WilliamBrown 06-28-2007, 08:03 AM Nuclear War and the Pubs along Scottie:
Hi guys (and of course girls). All police stations in the Pool and many pubs in Scottie Road (during the 50's and 60's) carried what was called the 'Four Minute Warning Device'. It was a small black box fitted to wherever one would fit those things. It 'bleeped' every two minutes. My job, as a copper on Scottie, if the blasted thing continued its howling and continuous bleeping, was to run around the streets blowing my whistle. Goodness knows where I would put the people. Except I was instructed to shout "Stay in your homes, Stay in your homes". Sounds like a French Farce doesn't it. The pub licencees who had these devices fitted would close their pubs and tell their patrons to go home immediately. I would be left along blowing my ruddy whistle. Nobody ever said to me what would happen to me though. LoL. But I don't think it ever happened. At least in my time on Scottie.
:handclap:

Coupled with a mini pub crawl? Plenty of good pubs in Hope St area which would be of interest piccy wise for some.
Hope Street Is already been targeted by me for taking Pics anyway.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
