I,ve been trying to find out about my grandad Patrick Lavelle. He was born in Ireland but I'm not sure where in 1891. He married Bridget O'Hanlon in Liverpool at St Vincents on 20/08/13 and died in Fazakerley Isolation Hospital from blood poisoning thre result of anthrax infection on 1/4/1925 aged 34. I've tried to get a birth certificate but Dublin Records can't help as I don't know his date of birth. I know it's a long shot but can anyone help me out?

Thanx Wendy

Hello Wendy

It may be just a coincidence of names with no connection to your Grandad but a writer in the Northeast of England, named Patrick Lavelle (http://www.yorkshireripper.co.uk/hyper/lavelle.html), has written about "Wearside Jack" who sent the hoax communications pretending to be the Yorkshire Ripper. Those communications are now known to have been sent by Sunderland man John Humble who pleaded guilty and is now serving time in jail. If you follow the link it will lead you to contact details for Mr. Lavelle. You never know -- there may be a connection! Good luck, Wendy.

Chris

Hi Wendy, I put your request on another forum which I am a member of, here are some replies

Lavelle is largely associated with county Mayo in the west of Ireland. If you check with your nearest LDS FHC you can check indexes of births registered around the period in question-1891.You will probably come up with a number of the same name which you can then request from GRO.I'm surprised that the GRO asked for a specific date-they generally do a search within a few years of approximate year.If the person's father's name can be got from his marriage cert this would also make the task easier.

You could try having a look here http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/frame_1024.cfm.
