On the way home from the Highlands at the weekend we split the journey at Oban on Friday evening, and we were treated to this sunset. No filters, no playing with the camera's settings, no photoshopping - this is nature's own palette :unibrow:

Half an hour later it was raining stair-rods

I've hundreds more photos from the 2 weeks away and it's taking an eternity to sort through them all, but I'll try to get some more on here in the next few days.

Hi, Iain

Fine photographs, Iain! :handclap:

I have renamed the thread "Sunsets" so others can post their photographs of sunsets taken in various locations.

All my best

Chris

Hi lottie

I was only at Oban once as a teenager as well, in the Sixties when my parents took my grandparents and I on a motoring up to Scotland. Iain's lovely photographs well capture the serenity of the place. A beautiful part of Britain and Scotland.

Here's another one - not so colourful but I love the skyline on this one. This was way further north in the Assynt region, north of Ullapool.

Hi Iain

Another fine photograph. This one is especially fine I think because it has a certain timelessness to it, showing a dramatic landscape which could be a mountainous scene virtually anywhere in the world.

It's the region which is home to some of Europe's oldest rocks, some 3,000 million years old (our planet is "only" 4,300 million years old). You can feel it when you're travelling around, you can almost feel yourself travelling back in time.

Hi Chris, i went in the 70's, sounds a long time ago, eh? It is a lovely part of Scotland. I lived in Glasgow till i was 14 then left and moved to London, i live in Liverpool now. I didn't travel around Scotland so i don't know much :)

I've been going for a week or two in the summer for the past 6 years now, plus two Hogmanays in the Highlands - a REAL way to spend a week! I'm making plans to go again with my bike before the summer is out - it was a "like to do" until I found out I can get right up to Inverness on the train for only £42 return then it became a "must do".
