In the early fifties when I was about four or five, I remember one night when it was dark and I should have been in bed my Mum got me ready to go out.
Outside our house there seemed a lot of excitement all our neighbours were walking towards Netherfield Rd, to a building called the Victoria Settlement which was high on the hill.
When we got up our street there were crowds of people all looking towards the river, it was dark and even though I was very young I could sense something was about to happen, my Dad put me on his shoulders and told me to look up to the sky, then all of a sudden the sky just exploded with a fantastic display of lights, just like bonfire night.
What I would like to know is, was this the Aurora Borealis and what date did this happen.
It must have been a great occasion as I still remember it all these years later.
I have tried to find out more about this but I can't seem to get an answer.
