snappel 06-15-2007, 02:37 PM Probably the most pointless thread I've ever read.
You don't know what happened, you weren't there. How about leaving it to the courts to decide who's guilty and what they're guilty of?
Ever seen him in panto edwardo?
Are you suggesting he's done Alladin?

AARGGGGH, and I thought my puns were bad :handclap:
lindylou 06-15-2007, 02:56 PM Like the Michael Shields case; none of us know the truth YET.
We'll wait and see.
I'm not passing a comment either way.
PhilipG 06-15-2007, 03:09 PM I hope this thread isn't going to bring out the worst in bad jokes, but it looks like that's already a forlorn hope.
If it had been a racist murder, would there be similar remarks?
I think not.
No remarks on here have been made about his sexuality Phil. Done Alladin refers to 'Done a lad in'. Please don't give me reason to think you're over sensitive.
PhilipG 06-15-2007, 04:11 PM Ged.
Let others make up their own minds what you meant.
Why do you feel the need to explain it?
ayjaykay 06-15-2007, 04:20 PM To 'do somebody in' means to murder them. It's nothing sexual.
Ged.
Let others make up their own minds what you meant.
Why do you feel the need to explain it?
I didn't feel the need until your previous posting. :op
To 'do somebody in' means to murder them. It's nothing sexual.
Thank you Ayjaykay. Any other takers?
Oh dear. Was that a bad choice of word too - sometimes you just can't win.
chippie 06-15-2007, 04:44 PM Overlooking the puns Gedrick. There has been a murder and the family want results.
I think Michael has already served a certain sentance by being talked about in the press. He may have been a celebrity comic once, but now he is a man with a body found on his property.
Someone has to answer for it and seeing it was on Michael,s property, the easy way out is to make him pay
I agree, unless of course it was an accident and being an adult he took the drugs willingly and then drowned. I dunno.

Michael Barrymore: held overnight at South Woodham Ferrers police station.
Detectives questioning entertainer Michael Barrymore about the alleged sexual assault and murder of a man in his swimming pool six years ago were today given a further 12 hours to detain him.
Mr Barrymore, 55, is one of three men arrested by Essex police yesterday after a re-examination of the death of Stuart Lubbock, a 31-year-old butcher who followed the TV presenter and a group of friends home after meeting them in a nightclub.
Article continues
It is understood that the other two are Jonathan Kenny, 37, Mr Barrymore's former lover, and Justin Merritt, 32, a dustman who lived close to the comedian's mansion in Roydon, Essex, at the time. They were picked up in Lancashire and Staffordshire respectively.
Police, who have not formally identified any of the men, said they now had until 10pm to question a 55-year-old man and until midnight to question a 32-year-old man. A third man, aged 37, could be held till later this afternoon, they added.
Mr Barrymore's solicitor Henri Brandman released a brief statement at South Woodham Ferrers police station in Essex, where the entertainer in being questioned.
It said: "Michael is fully cooperating with the police in their inquiries. There will be no further comment at this time."
This morning, a small group of fans of Mr Barrymore, carrying a "We Love Michael" poster, gathered outside the police station.
Mr Barrymore was arrested in London having recently returned to the UK from New Zealand. All three were taken to the same Essex police station and held overnight after questioning throughout the day.
Yesterday's arrests were welcomed by Mr Lubbock's relatives who believe he was the victim of foul play and have claimed that Mr Barrymore knows more than he has so far told police. Notably, they doubt that Mr Lubbock met his death in the pool and say he was thrown in after an assault.
His father, Terry, 62, said: "It feels like the end of a long struggle." Rosina Lubbock, 86, the deceased's grandmother, added: "I'm so happy I can hardly speak."
No representative of Mr Barrymore was available for comment yesterday but the star has always denied wrongdoing, claiming that he left the mansion soon after the body was discovered by others at his party.
The entertainer, Mr Kenny and Mr Merritt were arrested and bailed in connection with the death in 2001 but were not charged. Mr Barrymore, 55, received a caution for cannabis possession and for allowing the drug to be smoked at his home.
An inquest a year later heard that Mr Lubbock died with "a significant level of alcohol and drugs in his system" but had also sustained serious and unexplained anal injuries. The coroner recorded an open verdict.
Tony Bennett, Mr Lubbock's solicitor, said the family has been angered by the accounts they have received but also by the police investigation, prompting 38 separate complaints to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
"Terry Lubbock has never said that Michael Barrymore was the perpetrator but he has always maintained that Michael Barrymore knows what happened," he said. "He wants justice."
Mr Barrymore has always denied that Mr Lubbock's death was suspicious. Promoting his biography last year, he said: "I think it was a straightforward drowning. He dived into the pool and passed out from all the drink and drugs."
Essex police are saying little about the progress of the inquiry but it is understood officers have been retracing their steps, looking for clues that may have been missed and trying to re-examine items using the most up-to-date technology.
There has been a re-analysis of the emergency call that was made on the night Mr Lubbock's body was discovered, with the hope that the background noise may yield some clues about what was happening.
Advances in DNA analysis have also enabled officers to take a fresh look at items seized from Mr Barrymore's home.
Last week, detectives received tapes of interviews with Mr Barrymore that were made by his former literary agent Tony Cowell - the brother of the X-Factor judge Simon Cowell - in preparation for Mr Barrymore's autobiography, Awight Now: Setting the Record Straight.
However, the force downplayed any link with yesterday's development. "The arrests were planned prior to Essex police obtaining those tapes," a spokesman said.
In the 1980s, Mr Barrymore's TV shows such as Strike It Lucky and My Kind Of People attracted up to 15 million viewers. In 1995, his mainstream career hit trouble when he came out as gay. He split from Cheryl, his manager and wife of 19 years, and his TV career floundered amid tales of drug and alcohol abuse.
In 2002, after the inquest into Mr Lubbock's death, he tried to revive his career with a one-man show in London but it was scrapped after poor ticket sales and he moved to New Zealand.
He filed for bankruptcy two years later. Last year he came second in Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother but the Lubbock case has always dogged him. The victim's father is to publish what promises to be an explosive book on the affair, Not Awight - Getting Away with Murder, on July 13.

Libertarian 06-15-2007, 06:47 PM Barrymore has done more damage to the gay movement than anyone.
If he is guilty of this terrible crime he should be severely punished!!
Furthermore if it is found he is guilty why the hell did channel four allow a murderer to appear on celebrity Big Brother.
However, even if he isn't I still don't like him because he needs to see a shrink.
His bizarre antics get on my nerves and he constantly craves public adoration, and media approval. When he doesn't get this he cracks up and sso it goes on and on.
I am more of a Paul O'Grady Man meself a true gent and a Scouser to boot!

could say maybe the most pointless reply
As Edwardo said in his post
Hello.good to see Mr Barrymore being picked up(and his mates)its only been 6 years, but blimey theres only the fact of a body in the pool... and allright loads of class A drugs..but this guy is a much loved Entertainer.Know wonder the LAW IS called Mr plod anywere els he would be a third of his way thro his sentence by now ALLWITE.got that of my chest.
Some of this is fact, Barrymore, an ex boyfriend and friend have been arrested by police, a load of drugs, a body in the pool, he was a much loved entertainer, it has been years since the incident, whats there to dispute in Edwardos posting, maybe the fact that Edwardo thinks that Barrymore might or is guilty, but people are allowed to have their views on this and other issues.
I am unsure if he is guilty of the death, but I believe that Barrymore knows more (than what he has told us) about what went on in his house.
I hope a closer can happen now especially for the victims family.
edwardo 06-15-2007, 07:16 PM The point i would like to make (and know one has said anythink about )is that it seem's to me that you can no longer resort to the courts or police for Justice,if you want justice you have to take it yourself,if you are a celeb,or footballer, you can do ,say and behave as you like, the Law do's very little.I'm prity sure that had my lad been found in similar cercomstances,MR BARRYMORE,would have to explane a little more than he has so far.
the so called stars and footballers can behave in the most lowlife way
but a true fan will only see the entertainer,I'll say no more.
Steven 06-15-2007, 07:25 PM Michael is a great personality. During the past 6 years his life has been in ruins and he will welcome the chance to clear his name in the courts. Remember he is innocent until proven guilty and I say 'Good Luck to him.'
I believe that the truth will come out and that people will be dealt with by the legal system.
Remember Mr Barrymore, 55, received a caution for cannabis possession and for allowing the drug to be smoked at his home.

I second that Steven. I used to love watching his programmes and I thought he was a true entertainer. I'm sure anyone in the same position would have the weight of the world on their shoulders whether guilty or not and I suspect it is far worse for him for being in the public guy.
Libertarian 06-15-2007, 07:39 PM Well if he is innocent why did he remain silent when the police questioned him last time? Poor thing!!
Shapers 06-15-2007, 07:56 PM The fact of the matter is, a man was found dead in his pool. OF course no one knows what happened there, apparently Barrymore dosen't, but look at the facts here that makes Barrymore hated for his actions.
His 'poor me' routines, crying on television
Lying about he can't swim, he claimed he could'nt swim and apparently ex missus turned up with a swimming certificate.
Dragging his feet over enquiries
Only showing remorse to the Lubbock family when the cameras were clicking.
But i would not rule out that it was a sex act gone wrong. I Know the man was married with kids, but he may have been leading a double life.
I just hope that the truth comes out. It may not be to the liking certain parties but the Lubbock family do need to know what happened that fateful night.
Steven 06-15-2007, 08:01 PM :handclap: Let's let the truth come out:handclap:
No point in doing a William Wallace job on him ( hang, drawn and quartered) until we have heard what he has to say.
ChrisGeorge 06-16-2007, 01:05 AM Hi all
As you see I have moved this thread down to the Alehouse. Living as I do in the US I didn't know anything about the case. Now that I know the incident occurred in Essex not on Merseyside, I agree that this is the appropriate discussion area. Keep your discussion to the justice aspects of the case please. Let the conversation continue but no low jokes or asides. Thanks for your understanding everyone.
Chris
