I read today that Merseyside Police are making it an offence to drink alcohol on Formby beach this summer. While I think this is a good idea as it'll help curb anti-social behaviour, it's yet another example of the minority spoiling it for everyone else. I like chilling on the beach with a Corona, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if you were politely having the odd quiet beer in a corner somewhere you'd get fined just because they can. Where's the discretion with the law?
So really, does it solve anything? Why can't everyone who visits Formby beach appreciate it, not cover it in litter and not spoil it for others. Visitors to another area should respect that it isn't theres to destroy.

Snappel mate, I was about to decompose a few lines about your recent pics and how much I love 'em, when this post popped up! Spot on pal. Why can't the bizzies simply arrest people breaking the law? How is having a bevvy (or dropping a tab or two) at Formby an offence?
It's probably drinking beer topless thats more of an offense.

Since when did the police 'make' laws? I 'taught' their job was to uphold the law.

No offence to you Snappel, I'm not refering to you drinking your can of whatever ..
but I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to drink alcohol while visiting a beach
it's the last thing I'd be thinking about.
if I was going for a picnic on the beach or in the countryside the last thing I'd think of was ale !!
I can't see any reason for it.
You go to the pub for ale - not Formby pine woods
Are they talking about BBQ's maybe ?? the latest trend of people setting them up everywhere - another daft idea in this country
People here have gone daft ! pretending they are in Spain or Oz or something !!
while I'm on this rant :) - it's real DAFT - people have BBQs in their BACKYARDS !! Ha! with all the binbags and flies on the other side of the wall - and the cooker a few feet away in the kitchen !

Easy there Lindy!! My point was more that a ban has had to be introduced because of the bad behaviour of a minority. Everyday life shouldn't be like school - we shouldn't have to have restrictions and rules like this any more than is absolutely necessary. That such a ban has become necessary is a disappointment.
I'm not a big one for drinking as it is, and usually take orange juice or water, but now and then it's nice to throw a couple of cold beers in a coolbag. Just a shame that the option is removed by the ****-poor behaviour of others.

Sorry - I must sound like a nark ! ha,ha. :)
it's just that people go soft and they get on my wick !! ha!
Yes, you are right. We always have to be penalised because of the bad behaviour of the other dingbats :disgust:
a small example: it's like our local field - because of anti-socials it has been fenced and gated so much that it looks like a detention centre and access to it is now limited. We have to walk so far around to get into it that people have stopped using it.
Meanwhile the yobs just climb over anyway while we are locked out on the other side !!
Once again the good people are penalised.

I suppose you can always disguise the beer in an orangeade bottle or something snap.
And lindy, I support you on your rant. The girl downstairs had a barbi last week RIGHT UNDER MY BEDROOM WINDOW it stunk the place out, burnt chicken legs and sausages all round. Why not cook a nice tea and have it outside if the weather is good.
Ban barbies:eek:
Ban barbies????
What about Ken?

Often though, laws that look good on paper are badly enforced. Example...
I got fined for having no ticket on a train down south. I showed the guard my wallet with a Young Person's Railcard in it, plus hundreds of used tickets. I explained that I clearly wasn't evading a fair, but had got to the station just as the train was about to leave and didn't want to miss it. He enforced the penalty/fine rule because he could, and said as much.
But then I've been on Merseyrail trains and seen people without tickets be rude and offensive to the ticket collector, and just get told to leave the train. I've seen people get caught smoking on the train and have little more than that done.
Bye-laws and fines will always generate revenue, always look good on paper and always make the people in charge look they're doing something, but does it deal with the real problem? Like car tax evaders, for example. Thanks to them I now have to declare any off-the-road vehicles as SORN or get a fine, because the DVLA reckon that's how they'll catch criminals. Rubbish! It just catches-out people like me who have got enough else to worry about without hunting out registration documents all the time.
I think they should just bring in absolute unconditional zero-tolerance on the real offenders. But I suppose if the authorities are too stupid to determine a genuine criminal from someone with a genuine story, then things will only get worse...

and you live in a flat Chippie !!
I know I'm being a kill-joy here :unibrow: .. but BBQ's are SO naf now !!
The stench from them ! all those greasy sausages and burgers and that stink of fat - bought in bulk from Netto ! ugh !
.. but what makes me smile is that a lot of the time the cooker is literally a few feet away in the kitchen !! ha! why don't they just cook something there !
(They say they want the BBQ flavour of outdoor cooking) :D
People living in houses with gardens have to endure this stink evey summer  Batton down the hatches come June and July ! :D
- - but the daftest thing is that they even BBQ in the backyards squeezed between the purple wheelie bins.

It smells good when you are on holiday, walking along the seafront and the aroma of fresh fish on the barbeque - of course then it is very nice. :)
I just don't find the stench of Nettoburgers very appealing. :)
