The castle has recently been bought by a Yorkshire based group for £800k with plans to turn it into a 5* hotel and spa. I think it's going to cost about £6m or so to develop. I'm not sure that the campaign group is 100% happy at this outcome

We had a walk around the castle grounds and it's a shame to see the castle in such a neglected state.

I wish they would do it up.

Take a look at page 4 of the guest book - scroll down to see the message I left (Linda from Liverpool ).

I have been to Gwrych castle loads of times over the years and have seen it in it's former glory. I remember when there were shows and entertainment and it was a great place to visit. I can't believe it's been allowed to detiorate into a crumbling ruin. :(

there wasn't a soul around when we explored the grounds - all you could hear was the rooks squawking - it was quite spooky  :)

There is a definate atmosphere about the place.

I remember going on some charra bang to a Castle in North Wales about 1968.
It had all the jousting followed by a big banquet doo daa in some old medieval hall.
I wonder if this is the same place ?

Yes, travellers, gypsies, eco warriors, hippies - whatever they were - moved into the place as squatters.

It could well have been the same place.
They used to have all kinds of entertainment and people walking around in medieval costume. There was a gift shop and small rides for the kids. They had a train to take visitors around the grounds. There were always lots of people there.

have a look at the web-site.

I put that message in the guest book a while ago when we hadn't been up to the castle for a long time. It was in a dangerous state after a fire, but since then it has been made secure and it is possible to explore the place.

In the old days coaches and cars could drive up to the parking area at the foot of the castle, but now part of the road has been fenced off.
You can drive part of the way up the main path then you have to park up and walk the rest of the way. Quite a long walk but worth it to get up close to the castle.

There is a lovely view over the coast from there too - as you can see from Bazza'a photo.

I love Wales and all its castles. I must have walked miles round Conwy Castle and the town walls especially.
