View Full Version : Creative Communities
Have you seen anything creative going on, in and around the communities of Liverpool that is worth a mention?
Artwork, projects, new ideas or concepts etc... being introduced and developed?
I had no idea the following was taking place:
Four Corners is a Liverpool, European Capital of Culture 2008 creative neighbourhoods' regeneration programme working with residents, cultural organisations and neighbourhood services.
It seeks to examine the life of Liverpool's communities by reflecting significant changes and upheaval - capturing memories, aspirations and supporting community cohesion.
Through the creative process Four Corners seeks to address the question what makes a neighbourhood?
A warm welcome awaits you at our Four Corners' House. Come and savour the flavour of Liverpool's neighbourhoods at this stunning exhibition.
It runs from Thursday 31 May to Saturday 2 June, 10am to 4pm. You can find the Four Corners' House at 34-36 Great George Street, Liverpool.

Kev :- It was a bit late being posted mate :) 3 hours ago.
Of course, there was still an hour though. I was letting members know about what has been going on. I'm keen to find any more examples of this kind of creative regeneration apart from the one above.

I went to see this today. I think its a great thing to do. It brings people to an area they wouldn't normally visit. The installation closes today at 6pm but the doors will be on for a few more days if you wanna get some snaps.
Is this the only piece of creativity then?

I do think that most people save it up for the Biennial, which is a darn shame. However, there is that hole in a building thing being built for 2008. Liverpool really does need more random things like this.
I think I'll edit the thread's title then.
Another thing Max didn't know about because of crap advertisment.
I'll get the doors though.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Just been reminded by my mum where Great George Street Is and they might be one of my nans old flat before she died.
If It's the first block of flats on that road then one of them was my Nans flat.

This was a really strong exhibition, I wrote about it here (http://www.newfolder.co.uk/blog/2007/06/house-corners.html), I was really disappointed that they put all this effort in for such a short period of time.
Welcome to the forum, I've just read your report, many thanks. I would usually go and visit stuff like this but wasn't aware of it until I saw your pic and still didn't know the details.
Cheers

This artwork got a mention in the Liverpool Echo on Wednesday. I passed a couple of days ago and again today, but Capital of Culture events don't really interest me. I did notice a few windows in the doors had been 'bricked', which says it all about community.
I also noticed that the side-view of the nearby 'Blackie' is about to disappear by a block of appartments (the steel frame was erected this week).
@Max...this is situated in the middle of Great George Street. The rest of the street has been demolished. I only have pics of this middle section and the ones that were near the 'Blackie'. I assume by first, you mean the ones that were near the old bank/Monarch Furniture/wedding shop.
Brown heaps praise on city’s community projects (http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/liverpoolecho/news/echonews/tm_headline=brown-heaps-praise-on-city%2D%2D8217%2Ds-community-projects%26method=full%26objectid=19264747%26sitei d=50061-name_page.html) - GORDON BROWN thanked his supporters in Liverpool for their trust and pledged his support for the Capital of Culture year in a visit to the city yesterday. more (http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/liverpoolecho/news/echonews/tm_headline=brown-heaps-praise-on-city%2D%2D8217%2Ds-community-projects%26method=full%26objectid=19264747%26sitei d=50061-name_page.html)
It's a good job it wasn't near bommie night with all those doors up there. I also think that with the big history festival coming up and stuff organised for the 800th birthday month of August and CoC year next year, there isn't that much happening right here right now.
As far as the Scottie Road/Vauxhall/Everton community goes, Paul is always putting his Gardens of Stone film on by 'conditional' request and I know Ron Formby is working on a 'Changing face of local communities' exhibition which will be at Editions, Cook st, in the Scottie Press foyer and also at the Echo atrium in the next few months. It's a then and now picture board with first 60 and then 300 photos as he is currently unearthing many snaps taken in the 70s and 80s with the aid of heritage lottery funding.

Hahaha made me laugh the way he tried to take credit for the Eldonian village. Love her or loath her it was Maggie Thatcher who provided the funds for that in spite of the Miltant tendency at the time. Whats Labour done for Everton, Kirkdale and Vauxhall? Opened a justice centre big deal!
The doors are still there, looks like scallies have smashed some of the door windows though since I last went to look at the red doors.
Took a pic last Monday, just taking my time with photoshopping them.
Did you knock on one and run away?
