jimberan 06-01-2007, 07:41 PM Hello guys,
Is there any news about what new players will be moving to Liverpool next season? I haven't heard much about new players lately although the coach did say that he would buy some big name players.

I suspect we won't try for him but I WANT TEVEZ :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
TerryB 06-09-2007, 09:47 PM Heard a few whispers that Malouda is almost done.
Tevez is defo on the wanted list but they are waiting so see the outcome of the legal action against West Ham.

Alonso was one of boss Rafael Benitez's first signings
Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has signed a new deal with the club.
The 25-year-old, who had been linked with a move away from Anfield, has put pen to paper on a contract that runs for five more years until 2012.
"I knew there was interest from other clubs but it was always my idea to stay here. It's a special club and I just didn't want to leave," said Alonso.
He is the fourth Red to sign a new deal after Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and compatriot Pepe Reina.
"It's also good news to see that other players have signed new contracts this week," added Alonso.
"Stevie, Carra and Pepe are all big players for us and it's great they have all shown their commitment.
"I'm sure the manager will be bringing in new players as well and that the new owners will be making a big effort to improve the squad.
It gives a clear indication to prospective new signings that this is a club looking very much to the future
"We can achieve big things and hopefully we won't make the same mistakes next season as we did last season. We want to be challenging the top teams."
Alonso, who signed for Liverpool in a £10.5m deal from Real Sociedad in August 2004, had been linked with a return to Spain and Barcelona.
Speculation also suggested a move to Juventus could be on the cards, particularly with his place in the team under threat following the January arrival of Javier Mascherano.
But Alonso is up for the challenge of battling the Argentine for a midfield role on Merseyside.
"It's great to have competition and I'm ready to fight for my place," he added.
"The more top-quality players we have then the better the level of the team will be and I'm confident I can play a lot of minutes on the pitch and keep the confidence of the manager."
After securing Alonso's services, the Champions League finalists will now turn their attentions to Steve Finnan and Mohamed Sissoko.
The pair are expected to sign five-year extensions over the weekend.
But boss Rafael Benitez has seen enough of goalkeeper Daniele Padelli, who has returned to Sampdoria after a loan spell at Anfield.
The 21-year-old played one game for the Reds, the last domestic outing of the season against Charlton.
The Reds have also released former youth team keeper David Roberts, while Jerzy Dudek has not been retained, so Benitez will need to bolster his options behind Reina and Scott Carson.

On Radio City this morning they are reporting that Darren Bent from recently relegated Charlton has become the Reds number one target after Eto confirmed he wants to stay at Barcelona.

CARLOS TEVEZ will quit West Ham at the end of the season whether they stay up or not - with Liverpool ready to head the £12million bidding.
Argentine striker Tevez is going to move on, with his agents and 'owners' fuming about the way they have been carved out of the controversial deal that has put Hammers in the dock.
Wannabe Hammers owner Kia Joorabchian - the man who brought Tevez and Javier Mascherano in on a double deal - met Kop chief Rafa Benitez in a London hotel before yesterday's game at Fulham.
Benitez already has taken Mascherano on loan with a view to a full-time buy and now his pal Tevez is being lined up to join him for next season too.
Top insiders reveal that Tevez now will be found a new home in the Premiership and that is sure to spark further anger about who controls the South American star.
Hammers were fined £5.5million for misleading the Premier League about third-party ownership of Tevez by Joorabchian - and they were advised to rip up the contract with him.
But the reaction from Tevez's camp is to move the striker on as soon as possible - and that will only add fuel to the fire about who profits from his moves.
I understand that Tevez's advisors already have been in Brazil to thrash out their slice of the transfer with Corinthians, the club he was signed from last August.
The plan is for Tevez's next club - with possibly Manchester United and Chelsea also keen - to pay £12m to Corinthians, who will then pay back the money owed to Joorabchian and his sidekicks.
West Ham may end up with nothing from the deal.
Tevez's contractual arrangements have been a shambles since Joorabchian brought him and Mascherano to West Ham.
Now six Premier League clubs want Hammers docked points for the part they played in the moves.

HAMANN, PARTRIDGE and MORIENTES
Barcelona are reported to be pondering a surprise move for Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann when the transfer window reopens.
by: skysports
The Spanish giants are considering re-entering the transfer market in January to help ease a midfield crisis. With Edmilson and Thiago Motta long-term injury victims at Camp Nou Barca coach Frank Rijkaard is short of options in midfield. The Dutchman is keen to bring in a new midfielder in the New Year as he looks to keep Barca on the road to challenging for honours. Arsenal's Brazilian international Edu is believed to be Barca's top target to alleviate their midfield problems, although the Spanish club have played down their interest in the South American. Reports in Spain now suggest that Barca are drawing up a list of alternatives should they fail to lure Edu away from Highbury.
Hamann is believed to be among the list of targets to fill the defensive role in their midfield having missed out to Real Madrid for Argentine Javier Mascherano. The German's future at Liverpool is uncertain following the arrival and impact of summer signing Xabi Alonso. The former Newcastle man was even dropped from the starting line-up for his side's last game at Chelsea with Senegal international Salif Diao getting the nod ahead of him to start in midfield. Hamann was strongly linked with a move away from Merseyside during the summer and with his contract coming to an end next summer speculation is sure to intensify.
Liverpool could be prepared to sell him in January rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer as it would raise more funds for Reds boss Rafa Benitez to spend himself in the transfer window.
PARTRIDGE TURNS DOWN MILLERS
Liverpool midfielder Richie Partridge is unwilling to join Rotherham United on loan because of the Millers' current lowly position. Rotherham boss Ronnie Moore is desperate to add some quality to his squad and saw Partridge as the ideal person to bring to Millmoor. However, the 24-year-old is not keen on joining the South Yorkshire side despite struggling to establish himself at Anfield.
"Rotherham are a progressive club with a good manager but Richie's got nothing to prove at that level," Partridge's agent Neil Sang told the Reds' official website.
"I've heard Nottingham Forest are also interested and I would expect Liverpool will be fine with whatever he decides.
"But perhaps a team like West Ham might be better for Richie - simply because of Rotherham's current plight."
Partridge has made just one appearance - in the Carling Cup - for Liverpool and spent most of the 2002-03 campaign on loan at Coventry City. He also spent a brief period on loan with Bristol Rovers at the end of the 2000-01 season. Rotherham are currently rock-bottom of the Championship table, having failed to win any of their opening 12 fixtures.
Benitez to make move for Morientes Oct 12 2004
By Andy Hunter, Daily Post
RAFAEL BENITEZ is planning a renewed bid for Fernando Morientes as he looks to strengthen his struggling strikeforce during the January transfer window. The Liverpool manager tried to sign the Real Madrid star this summer but was thwarted when the striker (left) pledged to support Jose Camacho in his first season at the Bernabeu. But Camacho's abrupt departure as Madrid coach has cast doubt on Morientes's long-term future and Liverpool are ready to test whether his resolve has been weakened by the managerial upheaval.
Michael Owen has been repeatedly linked with a return to Anfield in the transfer window even though FIFA rules prevent such a move until next summer. Benitez, however, remains anxious to improve his weakened attack and sees the experienced Spanish international as an ideal addition with Djibril Cisse and Milan Baros struggling and only Florent Sinama-Pongolle in support.
Speaking last month the Liverpool manager, who also wanted to bring Jonathan Woodgate to Anfield, revealed: "I wanted Morientes as part of the Owen deal but he had given his word to Camacho to stay and he kept it."
But with Camacho now out of the way and Morientes hurt by Madrid's decision to loan him to Monaco last season Benitez will test that commitment in two months' time. El Hadji Diouf, meanwhile, has been kicked out of the Senegal squad for going clubbing the night before their game with Liberia on Sunday. The unwanted Liverpool striker, currently on loan at Bolton, had only just returned to international duty following suspension but was axed by Senegal coach Guy Stephan for breaking disciplinary rules. Diouf's off-field antics hindered Liverpool's attempts to offload the £10million flop in the summer and this latest episode will not help their prospects of finding a permanent buyer next year.
Senegal coach Stephan, who resisted pleas from Diouf's teammates not to drop the striker, said: "He's a pro and should know the team rules, which demand rigour, discipline and punctuality."
Liverpool's Irish winger Ritchie Partridge has been offered the chance of regular first-team football by Coca-Cola League Championship side Rotherham. "We spoke to Liverpool about Ritchie Partridge but his agent has not been back to us yet," confirmed Millmoor manager Ronnie Moore.

Liverpool have agreed a deal with Arsenal for Thierry Henry to arrive in the summer for £15 million.

Dunno about all people Marie, I think the lad is class and at 23 he will only get better.
Captain of Atletico at 22. Which suggests a certain character.
Played much of last season out of position at RW but still got 14 goals.
He's expensive for sure, but like everything else in life these days you get what you pay for.
Rafa's 17th La Liga player apparently. I think it's proven CL football suits them, do you think they can mix it in the prem though, Morientes, Josemi, Garcia etc. Still, I wouldn't mind giving him a try, how much was he again £4M - was he in our budget?

17 ? Doesn't seem that many.
Hopefully Torres will be a success like Reina or Alonso rather than the let down that Morrientes was.
Sorry to see Garcia go mind, we got more good games out of him than bad ones imho.

I agree that Garcia was a good player who scored fine goals on big occasions. He had almost talismanic significance to the club in that respect so I am a bit surprised they would let him go. However, if Torres can get the goals we need, the trade will be worth it.

i'm glad garcia has gone, he was so frustrating to watch, yes he could come up with a bit of magic now an then but what good is a player that performs once in every 8 games, he was too lightweight and we couldn't afford to carry him for the games he was terrible
anyone know if we've signed that babel from ajax yet?

Luis gave us some great games and scored some very important goals but sadly was a bit of a liability against some of the more physical teams especialy away from home. Hopefully Benayoun will be more suited to playing the "squad" role that Garcia seemed unable to fill.
I'm less upset to see Bellamy on his way, to be honest I couldn't stand him before he signed for us and I didn't see anything from him while he was at Anfield to make me change my mind.
Cisse if finally gone, he had plenty of talent and bags of speed but like Garcia you have to think he is more suited to one of Europes less physical leagues.

We've got permission from Ajax to talk to him and the lad seems eager enough to sign so now I suppose it's down to whether Ajax intend to stick to the reported 13.5 M that they are asking for or if we are prepared to pay that much.
Gnomie 07-12-2007, 03:53 PM Just out of interest have the ticket prices gone up at Liverpool and if so how much? i believe the season tickets have had a bit put on. I just dont want to see the prices go the way Chelsea did.

They've gone up a bit Gnomie but no more than in recent years.
I can't see them gouging the fans the way that they have at Chelsea, it's a completely different situation. Personally I don't see anything wrong with Chelsea hiking their prices, most of their "supporters" are only there because Chelsea are winning and it's a cert that they will all find other things to do once things go pear shaped at Stamford Bridge.
I say grab what ya can from the glory hunters. :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
scouse mouse 07-12-2007, 09:19 PM Liverpool have confirmed that they have now agreed terms with both Ajax and Ryan Babel ahead of Dutch international's transfer to Anfield on Friday.
The 20-year-old attacker will put pen to paper on his Anfield deal tomorrow after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical on Merseyside.
"Liverpool have agreed terms with Ajax and Ryan Babel himself and the player will sign a 5-year-deal on Friday," claimed Liverpool Spokesperson Ian Cotton on Thursday afternoon.
Babel, who can play as a winger or in attack, saw his reputation soar after playing a starring role in Holland's triumph in last month's European Under-21 Championships. He was named man of the match after scoring a goal in his country's 4-1 final victory over Serbia.
He has been capped 14 times by the full Dutch team and scored on his debut against Romania in March 2005.
ChrisGeorge 07-12-2007, 09:34 PM Hi Mouse
I hope Ryan Babel can do the job. Chilean left winger Mark Gonzalez has proved to be a severe disappointment after all the trouble we trouble to which we went to get him. I do wonder about some of Rafa Benitez's choices.
Chris
Jimmy78 07-13-2007, 01:30 AM Marco Van Basten said that Babel could be the new T Henry.
Fingers crossed.

It's so hard though innit Chris ? I remember watching all those highlight reels of Gonzales and he looked great. Likewise Morrientes, I think we all thought we signed a gem there, who woulda thunk he'd wouldn't have been able to cut it in the prem ?
