I have been astounded by the standard of the photos which have been submitted here. They are second to none. The technical and artistic ability together with the wide range of material should be kept and shared.
My suggestion is that:-
with the members permissions of course.
12 photos are chosen and printed out as a Calendar for 2008. These will then be sold and why restrict it to the Yo Liverpool Site?
It will undoubtedly generate funds.
How they are chosen and by whom are questions to be answered. However, we have enough expertise here to deal with that.
Sorry I was unable to join you all last night but I loved the pickies and will try to get to the next meet- up.
All my very best to You and Yours

Steven 05-18-2007, 08:29 PM I've been advised to 'float this idea' around to see what you feel? Personally. I think it's a winner. All we need is a brain on here to organise it. :PDT11

I'm all for it, great idea. It is very expensive though
baztop3 05-18-2007, 08:45 PM i think it's an excellent idea and would love to see a Yoliverpool Calendar hangin on me wall and even more so if it had one of me pics in :)
i know i can get a large 12-page calendar for £9.99 but im sure you can get them cheaper someplace els.
Gerard 05-18-2007, 09:01 PM Fantastic Idea Steven :handclap:
As long as there's no bi.tchin' about crap photos and its all left to Kev,
And EVERYONE...Amateurs and Pro's alike get a look in.
And of course the Financial matters can be sorted out.
Yep...great Idea mate.
And might I add..its left to the people now on the Group and no new Import sharp shooters just geggin in to get their photos on,
Just an Idea to keep it for the people already on here..
steveb 05-18-2007, 09:14 PM On one of the other groups I frequent, they did a similar thing were
the group owner selected a shortlist of photo,s and members of the group
voted for the ones they would like.
Be interested to know if any member of the group is a printer who could
maybe arrange a good deal, don't forget it is expensive and the printers
will want paying before releasing the finished item
phredd 05-18-2007, 09:34 PM What a great idea for 2008.
Might be able to sell a few to the tourist's that arrive.
Just a thought.

MerseysideTransportTrust 05-18-2007, 09:52 PM My Brother Peter has a great new photocopier printer in his Print shop (KLEERPRINT 0151 207 2467) . Hes just done some rally programmes for us and they were very reasonably priced . Give him a try if you need a quote

chippie 05-18-2007, 11:38 PM now there,s a smashing thought. I uphold the :handclap:of all the photos that have been put up on our site. I can,t commend them more highly BUT a calendar could be the start of something big for the site. I reckon that they would sell out almost immediately.:PDT_Aliboronz_24: More photos members, wish I could take photos:ninja:
lindylou 05-19-2007, 07:48 AM I agree that it is a good idea. It would be smashing if it could generate funds for the site.
theninesisters 05-19-2007, 08:48 AM I took part in a calender event some year's ago - not to be entertained if I was looking in to it again today.
The biggest downfall is the cost - setting up the business. You have to have lots of capital to print off enough copies to get your money back - hundreds.
But you then have to ask yourself, why would someone buy YOUR calender and not an official one from Liverpool? There's then the marketing, you have to pay a cut for shops to sell them and there are hundreds out on the market already from dogs to professional photography - it would really have to stand out in the already saturated market.
What if you don't sell them? Who pays the bills? We're not talking of a few hundred quid here, you'd need about £8000 minimum to generate interest in printing them and stocking them. I would advise anyone who is thinking of this to really do some research, how much will they go for, where will they be sold, what is the profit made on each one, what if they don't sell....and so on.
Fantastic idea but everyone has the same idea each year.
Excellent idea, I don't have any knowledge or experience in the area though so I can't help with contacts/ advice etc... There maybe a possibility of doing one through and online company though which might be easier.
Steven 05-19-2007, 12:20 PM If there is a positive way of generating some cash for Yo Liverpool by utilising our own members' talents, then I think we should go for it. I am certainly not suggesting Big Business investments of £1,000's. Alll we need to do is chose a favourite photo and get the Calendar printed. A sugestion for the cost has already been made but as Kev suggests, 'it may be cheaper to have them done on line.?'
As to whether they would sell ? I feel sure they would but they could be printed out according to suply and demand. I will start the ball rolling by ordering a dozen now to send to my relatives (ex-Scousers) overseas.
An EXCELLENT idea :handclap::handclap:
So thats my mates Christmes pressies taken care of then :)
Well thought up Steven :PDT11
Jacky
steveb 05-19-2007, 12:39 PM As I have said it is a great idea, but very expensive even using an online
printer. A figure of around £8000 has been mentioned, and to be honest
this is around the cost, don't forget there is probably a minimum quantity
say 500, then setup costs, artwork quality of paper etc, etc so even though
a great idea I fear a none starter
lindylou 05-20-2007, 01:49 PM When it was first suggested, I thought - ' I hope this isn't going to be one of those like the film, 'Calendar Girls' - ha,ha!! ... using some stragetically placed current buns and chocolate eclairs ! :D
lol !
You're January Lindy :unibrow::handclap:
