Fergie 'certain' of Milan victory

Sir Alex Ferguson has all but written off Liverpool's Champions League chances and is backing AC Milan to win the final in Athens on May 23.
The Manchester United boss taunted his Premiership rivals by saying he plans to toast the Italian club's victory with a bottle of wine given to him by opposite number Carlo Ancelotti after Milan knocked United out at the semi-final stage last week.
"I'd bet for sure that Milan will win the Champions League. I'm absolutely certain of it," Ferguson said in The Sun.
"I said to Carlo at the end of our semi-final that there is no way he can now not win this competition," Ferguson added.
"Carlo gave me a magnificent bottle of wine.
"But I immediately told him I would only drink his win once I see him lifting the Champions Cup."
Ferguson admits he was in awe of Milan's performance in the semi-final second leg at the San Siro, which his side lost 3-0.
But he believes United's off-colour display was partially the result of their Premiership exertions the previous weekend.
"Milan's second-leg victory over us was stupendous, fantastic and extraordinary," Ferguson said.
"I know we paid a high price for the Premiership fightback which we needed at Everton to turn a 2-0 scoreline into a 4-2 victory.
"Last week, Milan were fresher and better prepared tactically and physically. "I'm still trying to analyse the factors involved. But the truth remains we faced one of the best performances in the history of AC Milan."

Hmmmm....could it be a case of sour grapes. A bit jealous that they haven't been as successful in Europe. Won it only once haven't you Fergie?

Could it be Sir Alex has green eyes to match his big purple nose??

If anything would make Liverpool play like demons in the final it would be this sort of comment. It implies that if Man U couldn't beat Milan then nobody could. Even if the Reds walk off with the trophy, you'll still read comments in the press that they were lucky or undeserving in some way. Not Man U or Arsenal you see, the darlings of the British sporting press. Seems the more trophies Liverpool win, the luckier they get. You have to sympathise with Sir Alex though, it must be difficult managing almost the most succesful club in English football who almost make it to the final.

I hasten to add that I'm not a fanatical Reds fan, or a blue one. I just like football and like to see credit given where it's due

That's fine. When we get hold of Big Ears again, we'll just rename it Wayne "The Loser" Rooney. :PDT_Aliboronz_24:

Another loser heard from: Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson would be interested in talking to Newcastle about the vacant manager's job. (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=428777&cc=5901)

If this doesn't spur them on I don't know what will,I'd play them that interview in the dressing room on the day of the final.

I pity him, he's a stupid drunkard who can't handle the truth.

The other week he said we'd won the European Cup four times (as opposed to the reality of 5), and a few years ago talked of United's desire to match those clubs who'd won the trophy "more than 3 times such as Ajax, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Real Madrid" but omitting the Reds.

He's in total denial of Liverpool FC and their achievements.

I hope that bottle of wine chokes him.
I'd gladly volunteer to open and pour.
Got me corkscrew ready. . . . .:wynar:
