Hi Max
As noted on toxteth.net on the page you cited, the old Brook House is discussed in Richard Griffiths' The History of the Royal and Ancient Park of Toxteth. As Griffiths describes, the datestone from the original Brook House of 1754 that stood at the corner of Lidderdale Road and Smithdown Road was at one time in the wall of the bowling green of the later pub, though as Toxteth.net notes, it wasn't seen on a recent visit. This is possibly something I can investigate when I am in the 'Pool May 15-21 or something you can check out in the meanwhile before I arrive on the scene. Let me know, Max. :)
All my best
Chris
The bowling green Is now the Car Park and Beer Garden I think.
So was It exactly where the datestone Is then because that wouldn't be on the corner of Lidderdale otherwise?

Hi Max,
To clarify, the datestone from the earlier Brook House was saved and put in the brick wall of the bowling green of the later pub to the east of the original location.
Chris
When I first came to Liverpool it was the Finch & Firkin and what a brilliant pub it was. Since it became It's A Scream I've gone right off it. Shame :Smiliz_Kingz_PDT_13

Too many students go to It too.
I've always known It as the Brookhouse though due to the words always on the building.
What is it you have against students?
They wreck and litter my area.
Wake my sister up between 3am and 5am which means I wake up having to put up with shouting In the street while sleeping.
Some can't even get an alleygate key.
It takes at least 3 of them to carry a 12 pack of larger In a shopping trolley.
They bring rats back to the alleys by leaving bin bags In the Alleyways for the rats to rip open.
They throw rubber johnnies In the alley rather than In their own bins.
Taxi's most nights are driving down here being the lazy drivers they are beeping their horns off distrubing the peace Instead of just knocking on their fares door.
Because of them Smithdown road Is Infested with takeaways and the pubs have lost their history.
The Councils excuse Is well they bring money Into the city but they don't pay Tax.
There thick as pig****. They may get a University education but they don't know **** about looking after themselves, the area they live In and common courtesy.
They leave their wheely bins all over the place resulting In alot of fires around here.
We get alot of then asking my mum things like lending them our alley gate key since they lose theirs and their landlords and themselves are too lazy to get a new one and even when they got a so called Plumber, the plumber and the students never knew where to shut off the water.
Didn't their parents teach them anything Instead of just spoiling them and sending them money? Everyone argues with their parents or **** happens but I'm glad my Mum taught me properly.

I can certainly sympathise with what you say happens in your area and I certainly wouldn't want to defend these people, but I don't think it's safe to generalise about a certain group of people....I have noticed you disparaging students on several occasions and these aren't throwaway comments-you seem to have a genuine dislike and I believe that propogating a generalised view of people can encourage ignorance and ill feeling amongst the more bloody minded memebers of our city.I used to socialise a lot with students when I was single, from all different parts of the country and from all different parts of Europe, and the majority of them were respectful.
The problems you describe happen all over Liverpool, what would your reaction be if someone said "All scousers are lazy and irresponsible."
Of course these problems happen all over Liverpool with not just students as well.
My reaction to all Scousers being lazy and responsible would be that to think It's not true but their are alot of daft scousers though not all so that comment about alot of lazy ones wouldn't surprise me.
Met some Ok students If they show themselves to be ok people then I won't hate them for being students, my sister will be one In September.
I only generalise the ones what I post about though and It's not just me In my area thats complained about them we've had leaflets through the door about what they do In the area.
Maybe I might encourage or Ill feeling but people have their own minds to not be encouraged by what I say.
Plus some of my student posts are for humorous purposes too.
everything that's wrong with students
I wouldn't say that's true for all students, but a lot is true for a some, maybe a lot, of students. I live with one and he ticks nearly all the boxes :disgust: but he's off at the end of June :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
He'll be replaced by the same kind of students most likely.:PDT10

You not a tad jealous of there promiscuous lifestyle Max?
I sure am jealous of talking like an Eastender, staying up till 4am then Uni at 10am, eating **** all the time, trashing house to house so the landlord can annually renovate, saying Yeah maannn like an Eastender hippie, getting high all I want, leaving the leccy near something soft resulting In kick arse fires, drinking alcohol like George Bush wanting Iraqi Oil and making shagging noises through the walls.
Oh I'm jealous alright.
Can we talk some more about those shagging noises though first?
Can we talk some more about those shagging noises though first?
Well In February I was the only one In the house as mum and sister went to Paris to some Uni open day.
So I spent most of my time on the Internet and walked upstairs to get something and then I hear through the walls something sounding like Oh OOHhh Gary and bed rocking noises.
St Pancras Toxteth Park was of course on Lidderdale Rd before being demolished and replaced with Lidderdale School. See earlier post

The old Brook House pub was on the Liverpool town side of the stream that was dammed to form the lake in Greenbank Park. Not sure where the culverted stream is in relation to Lidderdale Rd but Smithdown Rd does slope down to Lidderdale Rd from the present Brook House, suggesting a small valley with a stream at the bottom.
So If It was on the town side of the stream, was It where the stables are now?
Alls Taffy Is telling me though was that Is was on the town side of the stream though. Was that the side were the stables are now?
It's still on topic though since there both on the corner of Lidderdale though(also two streets away from me.)

TO be honest Max, they sound like they are having a better time than you with all there debauchery. Give me parties and sex anyday over boxing.

Not if I have any say in it :PDT10 . Had enough trouble sharing with students in the last few years. No more.

Sorry Max, I'm not sure where the old Brook house was in relation to the present Lidderdale Rd and the old stables. The old stream has been culverted. No doubt the council know where it goes but this may not be the same route as the old stream. It's still flowing and you can see it coming out in Greenbank Park
