Hiya,
Did anyone have a Saturday job ?
I worked in St Johns Market on the Haberdashery stall, and got a £1 for the day....
I also worked in Samson and Barlow in London Road after school, until 9 at night,i got my 1st glass of champagne there and thought i was rotten drunk after the 1 glass
I loved these jobs, and they stood me in good stead for my future :)

I was brought up on paper rounds to earn my keep. Sunday morning 5:30am to sup and mark up the papers, then on my round.
Each night too with the Echo and I learnt that if you sent every person on your round a christmas card, they give you some money - I once got £85 notes in tips :) :)
If you want something in life you gotta get out there and earn it.

I did the 'Order Round' for Irwins (Grocers) in the 1950s.
After school for about 2 hours each evening, and Saturday mornings.
All for 12/6 a week (62.5p).
I was expected to put at least 15/- a week into my Post Office Savings Book (75p).
I saved enough to buy a transistor radio when they first came out (14 guineas - £14.70).

I worked in St Johns market for a couple of years (full time though).
I had a great time working there and actually enjoyed going to work. All the stall holders knew each other and we had such a laugh. There was a sense of community. :)

The Tesco today is round the corner in Mather Avenue.
Yates Wine Lodge in Allerton Road used to be Tesco.
It was built on the site of the Plaza cinema, which ended up as the Classic.

Blimy - you've got me going, I remember the old tesco's and the tiny car park to the left of it. Come to think of it, I remember the old school that was demolished to make way for the new Tesco's :PDT11

I never had a Saturday job. I lacked the initative but some of our lot had excotic Saturday jobs.
'Our Kid' used to chew bread for the *Gummy Ducks* in Sefton Park,
Connie, my little sister used to water the 'Scouse Bushes' in Park lane. (They were really weeds an' dandelions.)
I tried to do a paper round but I had troubles with me back ( I coulden't get it out of bed in the morning) Me Nan refused to deliver them papers.

I was a Sabbath Goy (Shabbath Goy) around the Brownlow Hill, Paddington area of Liverpool. I would light the fires and do odd jobs for Orthodox Jews on a Saturday morning.
